To make matters worse still, the gun used was a .22 caliber rifle, which was gifted to him by his mother when Noah was 11 years old, so he was already in possession of the weapon used for the murder and clearly had easy access to it from a young age

This is a really weird case.
The kid did it, then after it was over he realized what happened and now he seems really remorseful and upset. At least from what the article says, he doesn't seem to show any of the psychotic tendencies that you would expect. Then again, if he really is a psychopath, this could all be acting.
I wonder if he was on any prescription medication when this happened.

the boy probably had intermittent explosive disorder, not really an example of "a stupid person influenced by videogames." i can see where the confusion might have happened in shooting, but the kid almost raped his mom, and that's something videogames don't really teach you. those who kill and don't regret doing so are most likely sociopaths and that's something you don't really acquire from killing in games either. The most games can do to a person is lower their reaction to more violent stimulus but people who end up doing dumb shit like this have a mental issue not related at all to games.

stations/papers that chose to do this would lose customers by offending them, so they don't. they blame video games. most parents aren't too fond of video games, so voila, perfect scapegoat. just ignore the fact that it's the parents fault for letting their kid play xbox for 9 hours a day.
