i don't understand why people would continue using openplugin after they directly stated in the patch notes that it isn't allowed

Team Fortress 2 Update Released
Product Update - Valve Apr 18, 2013

Disabled plug-ins that would allow users to connect to secure game servers even when -insecure is specified on the command line
Continued use of such plug-ins will risk your Steam account getting VAC banned

How can you not read that and not understand the implied "find a way around -insecure and we'll ban your ass"?

I hoped they were more affronted at the bypass of -insecure than anything else. As I understand it, new Openplugin works like (a) Mumble overlay and (b) lots of cheats. Valve could have identified it as being equivalent to either.

By the way, how does anyone without transparent viewmodels know when they've switched to shotgun after running out of ammo with r_drawviewmodel 0?

Can you set different colour ammo for different weapons? The ammo count changes every time you fire a rocket too, it's too much information for peripheral vision.

The shotgun has 6 rounds, and i don't think its that hard to look at your ammo count every few minutes and see how much you have left, keeping track of it isn't that hard.

So it's just not a feature in the game, you're saying.

you can set different crosshair colors with a crosshair switcher
i think that's the only hud element you can manually/dynamically change

I would say from the amount of times I have tried, and seen others try, to shotgun jump that it can be difficult to keep track of which weapon you're using. I find it difficult when I'm offclassing as demoman too.

The thing to do is just get something like broesel's crosshair switcher and assign a different crosshair shape/colour to each weapon so you know that X crosshair means rockets and O crosshair means shotgun or whatever.

Unboxed 125 crates and did not get a single unusual. But I do have every single robo-hat now, which I will probably sell as a set :/
