So I noticed on Cevo there is a league for competitive BF 3. Anybody play/watch it? How does it work? I used to play some Game Battles BC 2 when it first came out (and I played on console) which was pretty good fun. Might be interesting to give it a shot if I hear good things.
Comp BF tends to be feel slow, but it takes like 30-35 minutes per game. If it was squad rush though, games would be anywhere from 15-30 minutes (like in BC2).
eGO has a competitive team for BF3, Ive played one match in it and it was pretty interesting. Its cool to see people who can use aircraft and vehicles so much better than you would in any other regular game so thats a plus from it.
From what I understand of comp BF3, it's nothing but Medics running around with the M16A3. There's not a lot of support for it, and there's no spectator mode so you can't really see how it's played unless someone records a POV. There are no demos, so people are stuck with FRAPS and the like.
BF4 will support multiple spectator angles including first person, third person, freecam, and a birds eye view of the map with the location of all the players.
I'm guessing competitive Battlefield will really take off once BF4 is out.

Yeah I thought that is what it would be like. Maybe I'll give it a shot when BF 4 comes out, or hey, maybe even play some more BC2.

bf3 is not a competitive video game
bf4 reintroducing spectating leaves hope that it may actually have a chance at being one

They need to get rid of the ridiculous glare from the sun and the amount of blue tint. And balance the weapons out so not everyone is running around with the same setup, usually M16A3/AEK with heavy barrel and foregrip
Competitive BF3 died the day it was released. There is no spectator mode, so it couldn't be a proper eSport title. Not only that, but different game modes were being played in a competitive setting. 5vs5 infantry, 8vs8 conquest, 4v4 rush, 16vs16 conquest. The whole community was divided, no standard mode was set for a long time and still isn't.
Multiplay supported it at i45 and then they realized they had to commentate it by utilizing capture cards in the player's PCs. It was way more hassle than it should have been and while they did have a tournament at i46, they didn't have a grand final on the main stage.
Battlefield 4 does contain a spectator mode. EA / Dice have listened to the flaws in Battlefield 3 but they simply couldn't code a spectator mode into their game retrospectively. However, Battlefield 4 will probably suffer from a lot of the competitive woes of BF3. There will be no standard competitive mode for a long time after the game is released. Top teams like to play an infantry style but then... why wouldn't you just go play CoD or CS:GO?
BF4 should be fun, but competitive BF3 at the moment is just a group of people attempted to stay fresh at the game ready for BF4's release (in hope that it becomes a popular eSport). It does have the potential to do so but it depends on a lot of factors.
