Suddenly high ping?

So up until about 5 days or so ago, my ping was normal. However recently I haven't seemed to get ping below ~120, sometimes with it even spiking to like 300 or 400.

I haven't changed any settings, I'm not doing anything differently. Sometimes my roommates use the internet or watch Netflix, all on our wireless, but they haven't been doing this any more than usual. I don't have any torrents downloading, no other browser windows open, and my roommates never torrent anything.

Any idea what the problem could be, or something I could try to do to fix it?

I've considered the fact that someone may have gotten our password and is piggybacking on our internet, so I'm gonna try changing the password and see if that makes a difference.

#2, agreed, but I don't have any other option at the moment. I'd love to go wired, and upgrade, if I could.

I did a speedtest.net, and nothing looks out of the ordinary.

Netflix actually uses up quite a bit of bandwidth, especially when watching newer shows/movies. It has been said that HD can use up to 2gbs an hour, so it's likely that is your issue. You can always look in your router while you have high ping to see where the issue is happening using the IP addresses. If netflix is the issue, you could always be a dick and set limits to other MAC address within the firmware. The amount you should set depends on your total bandwidth and buy how many people are in your house, and how many wireless devices each have. You will also be able to see if anyone is connecting to your router too this way.

#7 Packet Loss: 2%, Ping: 76ms, Jitter: 28ms

#8 It's completely understandable that my ping would be higher when netflix is running, however even when it isn't running I have high ping.

Ever since the update today I've noticed horrible ping spikes that happen ONLY when I'm connected to a server. It might just be that something is updating like Chrome, but I've checked and I haven't seen anything that could be causing it.

So my ping seems to be very steady and very constant now, no matter what time of day I'm on, whether or not roommates are using the internet (including netflix), it is always between 130 and 150. Sometimes it'll drop to ~80-90, sometimes it will go as high as 180, but 90% of the time it's 130-150.

I still have no idea what the problem could be... is it possible it's something wrong within my computer (software or hardware), or do I need to see if it's a problem with my ISP?

i had this problem with my wireless too. i just got another router and connected to the same signal off that router. i know it shouldn't make a difference, but it did for me. :/

just food for thought though, i wouldnt recommend going out and buying a new router unless nothing else works.

Okay I guess I lied a little. For most of scrims tonight my ping was ~130. However towards the end of the night it was ~70 (I don't remember where the server was, so i don't know if that's what my ping should've been). I'm calling my ISP tomorrow to see if there's a problem on their end, otherwise I have no idea what the problem could be.
