The first map i ever played on was cp_granary. I first started as soldier but i hated how slow he was at the time so i went and played pyro. When i got to mid this Engineer had a level 3 sentry gun set up on the crates and i had no idea what sentry guns were. So every time i walked up towards him or anywhere in the sentry's area it shot and killed me. After about 3-4 times i got really mad and called him a hacker. My first ever experience.

I'm gonna give a little irrelevant pre-story to mine, just because you reminded me of it.

So I ran a website, a webcomic, that started when I was about 13 (just shut down earlier this year). It got somewhat successful, and had a decent community on the forums. There was only like one mature guy, who was some random German dude. I eventually started playing games with him (he's the reason I got steam in the first place), and eventually he convinced me to buy TF2.

The only server we ever played on was some 32 man 24/7 pl_upward, and I'm pretty sure all the other players were bots now that I think about it. I remember both of had our longest life streaks at the same time, when I lasted 45 minutes as sniper and got like 80 kills standing in the same place.

First map was dustbowl. My first class was probably soldier, then i went scout and my first reaction was "wow im fast as shit". So i kept playing scout and ran around the map trying to beat people with my bat. It was really the only map i played for like a month, then i found out about 2fort.. LOL.

My friend I met in call of duty wanted to show me the magical world of TF2 at the time. I absolutely hated it and stopped playing after about 2 hours. I played every class a little on 2fort 24/7 instarespawn and I believe there was a plugin which made dispensers shoot rockets and stuff. Worst first impression ever! After a while i figured Engineer must be the strongest class and just sat there in the Intel room with my Level 3 Sentry and my rocket shooting Dispenser and waited for people to run into my deathtrap.

~6 Months later he pushes me to play the game again and I fell in love with it. Been playing it for roughly 3 years now. Thanks seeker! :)

I played heavy on badwater with a pocket medic and thought I was incredible at the game.

played scout on some weird custom map that looked like the final stage of no mercy from L4D, i left that right away and went to the community pub that my older brothers played on and got made fun of for my voice cause i was 13 =(

I was playing heavy on ctf_doublecross, I just came from counter strike source and I didn't know what bonk did. I thought it was really stupid that you could "miss" in an FPS game, I was so naive.

I played on dustbowl with bots for a solid 20 hours as soldier because I thought everyone online would be really good, as I was just getting into gaming.

Joined a random ass 24/7 koth_nucleus server on the other side of the country, went Sniper, kukri'd the fuck out of kids at 2:00 in the morning.

I still have that server favorited.

I played pyro and I kept wasting my ammo airblasting because it looked cool but i didn't know how to actually to use it.

I vaguely remember playing Hydro as a Demoman. I was so weirded out by his voice.

Not sure if that was actually the first class I played, or even the first map. It was so many years ago.

My brother wasn't using his Steam account, and I wanted TF2 for Christmas; so he gave his whole account to me. I don't remember my first class/map, I do know I fell into my first community practically the first day. I believe I played either Degroot Keep or Mountain Lab first.

I started playing when plr_pipeline came out, and I played spy on that for a long time. Pub spy is still a lot of fun.

2fort egypt for lyfe

I was a f2p. I downloaded the game in august after the f2p update because I was bored and heard good things. I played it for a couple hours and then forgot about it. I then met a kid at college that played it and convinced me to play it with him. Having someone there to explain what jarate was and tell me that my buildings get destroyed if I switch classes really helped me get more into the game.
