is it mounted upside down, is the exhaust facing a surface such as carpet? Need more information than just "getting hot"

I would have to assume it's upside down considering it has a fan opening on the bottom of the case. I had it on carpet for awhile until I found out there was that opening there (dunno why it took so long to figure that out) and it still gets hot.

edit: meant to say I've since moved it to higher ground and so that the opening isn't covered

it's hot during both. it's not incredibly hot but it's hotter than what i feel is normal. only the top of it is hot, the two touchable sides aren't.

i have the same psu mine never runs hot

is it hot in your room? my room can get pretty cool but my AC died awhile ago and this window fan isn't doing much help.

if you look at the reviews, it looks like your PSU isn't exactly well loved.

All my PC stuff has been getting incredibly hot with this summer heat and no AC.
Make sure everything inside your PC is clean, and all your fans are working (maybe buy a few cheap case fans as well, if you think it will have the airflow).
Keeping the side off of my case has dropped some of my temps by nearly 10 degrees.

If you can, you could try removing the PSU from your case so it has more open space around it, and isn't being heated up by the other internals of your PC.

is there a difference between the 12n and the 12f? I think it's probably the same thing as I can't seem to find anything official about the 12n, only the 12f.

Probably not, I can't even find references to 12n outside of a couple forum posts.

The fan in the psu may be dying or dead. Check to see if it's still spinning.

You can easily remove the fan inside and replace it with one that is more powerful. Just take the cover off the psu and you will see the fan mounts like any other case fan. Just swap it out with a better one. This may void your warrante so just be aware of that.

it can get hot but normally its cool with my ac even with my ac off and it being 90 out side it stays relatively cool

i can feel my psu vibrating so i'm assuming the fan isn't dead. i have like 300 fans in my pc, which makes me feel like my parts should be pretty decent in temp. i guess computers don't work like that

could my psu getting hot be the cause of my random, terrible fps drops in tf2/bo2? i haven't paid much attention to this in other games but those two i know i get them in.

You could just be feeling vibrations from all the other case fans. Turn it over on its side so u can see the bottom of the psu and the fan. Turn on the PC and see if the psu fan is actually spinning. It may also be clogged with dust and dirt from having been on the carpet with no air flow.

okay so I finally got around to not being lazy and checked out what was going on with my PSU. well, it turns out it's still spinning and spinning pretty strong (not in a bad way). it was pretty dusty inside so clearly i cleaned that.

now to see if the dust was the culprit

and it turns out it wasn't the culprit all along. psu's not hot whatsoever and i'm still getting this problem. i guess that's a relief.

any other plausible causes that i could check?

edit: i have some pretty silly suspicion that msmpeng.exe (some shit for MSE) is causing it but i've done everything to it in my power to make sure it doesn't. so i dunno. my temps are fine for my cpu and gpu.

i don't fucking get what the problem could be. it's not just tf2 so i'm ruling that out. it's tf2 and bo2. haven't really noticed it in any other game but i would be completely surprised if it was only those two games. my computer's insides are also as clean as i can possibly make them right now as well.

msmpeng.exe is MSE's "real-time protection" program FYI. if you're seeing high cpu usage all the time add the MSE program files folder to the whitelist of files to not check (you can do this in the settings). i've had to do this on every computer i installed MSE on.

i get pretty much 00 in CPU usage

edit: never mind, i get this when i don't have the problem.

can you guys please help me figure this out some more. it's a pain in the ass tremendously.

i decided to take another look at task manager when this is happening and actually did find out that, on my performance tab, it gets pretty bad when i'm experiencing this issue. did this by opening task manager, alt tabbing back in game, play for like 10 seconds, check task manager, wait for it to go down, go back in game for 10 seconds again, go back to task manager to see that it spikes when i'm in game (a lot) and doesn't when i'm not.

now i'm guessing maybe it's just because the computer is more focused on the game when it's not alt tabbed, but if that isn't the case or may not be the case, then i would like to know. i think it may be the case as i only have a lot of cpu usage from tf2 as i probably should.

does anyone have any experience using resource monitor to help me possibly see something wrong?

I'd asume that the PSU is still full of dust on the inside, if you don't have warranty on that thing anymore then just open it up and really clean it, if you just cleaned the fan of the PSU and it helped a little, I'd think that cleaning the whole damn PSU would suffice
