I'm by no means a good chess player (openings are more than one move? what??), but I enjoy the game casually, and (at least at the moment) I'm interested in playing more and getting a bit better. Things like this simply amaze me:

I recently got this chess app to play with a few friends, and it seems pretty good. If anyone wants to play with me, my username is "tksstepan". I'll accept all challenges (but please make the move timer 2-3+ days -- I'll likely make multiple moves a day, but just in case I'm busy) and gladly get destroyed by any real chess players out there.

Fox got me into watching ChessNetwork a while ago. His youtube videos are great (especially the 1 minute Warzone tournaments) and he live streams sometimes as well.
I'm pretty bad myself, but I've been playing on my phone a lot recently and have been getting better. I'll check out the app.

I fucking love chessNetwork there's literally nothing more entertaining than watching him go through a turbo tournament.
Definitely check out his vods.

Any and all beginner chessplayers should read "Logical Chess: Move by Move" by Irving Chernev, followed by Jeremy Silman's "The Amateur's Mind". You'll never look at the game the same way again.
TheChessWebsite's YouTube channel has a lot of great introductions to popular openings. Definitely check that out too. http://www.youtube.com/user/thechesswebsite
I used to be a tournament player, but I've been quite busy and haven't been able to play much lately, save for the odd correspondence game online.

ChessNetwork is tons of fun to watch. I'm in my school's chess club and I find myself winning more blitzes than regular games because I learned how to think quickly from him (I'm not very good, but I'm consistent no matter what the time settings are, unlike the top player on the team who's much better than me but struggles with less time).

I should get back into this game, used to play chess all the time as a kid until I got an N64 for Christmas. I'm pretty awful now.

Certainly up there with the Immortal Game, and even more impressive to me.

I used to be pretty good at chess. I spend too much time thinking though, so correspondence chess is the only way that won't bore my opponents.
Went 27-1 on chess.com back when I actually bothered to do that, but most of my friends are sort of bad so it's not saying much
