Look at what the major ISPs are doing. Starting next month you maybe highly annoyed at your ISP. Your internet speed may be reduced or even blocked. Not a smart plan by them but then again they are the major providers and there's not much you can do in terms of finding a new ISP.

i thought six strikes was supposed to start like in july
i feel like this is just a scare tactic.
what are they going to do, cancel and lose hundreds/thousands of customers?

Gah, sounds rough. Things aren't much better north of your border, so don't get any fancy ideas.
AT&T will be sending alert emails to customers who are identified as having been downloading copyrighted content without authorization from the copyright owner
so just don't get caught? private trackers and/or peerblock are your friend

how do they know what you are downloading if you are on a private tracker? Isnt that an invasion of privacy?
i used to use a european VPS with a high download (cheap ones come with 100mb), download the torrent with that and upload it to mediafire or download straight through FTP or something.
could also use the VPS for other things, such as a mumble/minecraft server.

This is a pretty nice way to do things, sadly it costs some money. I've got a dedi running rtorrent, rutorrent and glftpd. I download the torrent, upload through rutorrent then just grab the files with ftp.

I love when torrent freak used to give u a list of private trackers that had potential and I made accounts on all of them, havent used tpb in years thanks to private trackers. And VPNs are cheap as fuck now, you can get a really nice one for cheap, regardless of what they do it wont be hard to get around it

There are so few providers and so many customers that demand for an ISP is fairly inelastic. They know this and know they can do whatever the fuck they want with little consequence to their bottom line. That is why they come up with this bullshit that is obviously horrible for consumers.

dfymy fios wont let me down~
You would actually be wrong.
Time Warner Cable, Verizon, Comcast and Cablevision will join AT&T in the six-strike effort
In other words we're all screwed.
Also, it's apparently even worse in Japan. They actually have passed a SOPA-like bill and I've heard that they're actually enforcing it (like, you can't backup CDs there anymore).
Edit: Will this mean we'll all have to not play music when we stream?
Edit again: noticed it didn't say Google. BRB moving to Kansas City
