you're using your sponsor's money to hang out in europe AFTER i49 lan, and you still have the balls to ask the community for donations?
I'm sorry, what? We're using our sponsor money for our flights to ESEA like the post suggests (also we haven't actually received $500 of the $700 so it's a bit worrying), I'm also very sick of reading every post from you being some hate spewed vitriol directed at our team (see the quick-fix thread where you single us out). Yes I respect your team for having full-time jobs and being out of school and being able to afford your flights. It's a bit tougher for us as 4/6 are still in early years of college. I can understand why you think it's bad when you guys don't need this.
1. you're booking 2 weeks before LAN when the date/location was announced at the beginning of the season and your LAN spot was guaranteed halfway through
I've actually been checking a LOT (near nightly since the date announced), the flight prices have been quite steady and much higher than they were in April, as soon as the dates were announced I started checking, for whatever reason the prices have steadily gone up season from season but the prices now are quite similar to what the prices were back when the dates were announced.
2. you have a sponsor
Quite right, unfortunately they were unable to provide what they discussed completely (the reasoning was fair and logical). Also to be fair, HRG's #1 priority unfortunately isn't TF2, that's just the state of TF2 sponsors right now
3. cyzer is the only Canadian
Yeah, my flight alone is $617, the cheapest I've seen it for a while.
4. you're likely getting first
That is not quite guaranteed, especially with the game changing and mixup getting stronger with the quick-fix. We could easily drop to you guys or even trihards who have a history of beating us too. (Sorry AG, haven't seen you guys play in awhile you might beat us too)
Normally I have no problem with fronting the money (one season we got 2nd and I was out $120 regardless) but I do not feel comfortable missing 2 1/2 weeks of work and flying straight out to Europe without a fair bit of money saved. I know our costs are nearly completely covered for i49 but flying that far with 6 people I feel like I should have some money saved in case something goes wrong. I am flying with my team and I don't think a lot of their financial situations are all that sound. I/WE AM/ARE NOT LOOKING TO MAKE A PROFIT, I frankly don't care about that as I do love playing at lans. (And truth be told, I don't have a ton of money saved right now as it is)
We are offering some things in return.. I've also gathered some games and stuff to give out, it's up to you guys if you feel we're worthy of a donation or not. We DREAD doing these donation drives, but unfortunately for a team filled with young players like ours.. it's sadly a necessity.

you're just being completely delusional, read enigma and seagulls post
I understand their opinion on the subject, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't think that "You are probably going to win." is a very valid argument and is not a great attitude. I also don't see how trihards donations are being harmed by HRG accepting donations. Think of it as paying for the donator perks. Once again, just because they are aiming for a goal of $500 doesn't mean they will get $500.
shadeIf you do not feel like these donation incentives are relevant to you, do not feel obligated to donate anyway... This donation drive is not a "you should help us get to LAN", but rather "if you are interested in any of the donation incentives and want to support us in return, then consider donating".
Not sure if people are missing that part :/

Wtf? Why are people are so quick to jump in and defend eXtv when they ask for money towards the documentary yet attack a team who asks for donations, even when they offer fair incentives and make it clear that they are not dependent on our help? While the documentary and lan funds are completely different situations, it doesn't change the fact they're both asking for compensation towards certain expenses.

I don't know why people were stupid enough to think this wasn't going to inevitably happen. We knew HRG and Trihards were going to lan week 5. We had 3 (4, kind of) teams that were questionable in going to lan, only 1 of them without a means to get there as far as we knew (unless Klanana was planning on covering that). Maybe AG had that issue too, but i figured they had it covered. Top Guns seemed to be in the runnings at that point and who knows what would happen there.
It seems asinine to attack a team when you knew it was coming.

My issue here is that if there's a privileged team in the whole tf2 scene that's your team, you guys are going to europe with full expenses paid by the community, you are going to lan as 1st seeding and favorites to win, possibly making a profit (even if it is to pay for your extra week in england), you have won last season as well. If there's a single team making a profit in the scene then that's your team. Even scraping the money issue altogether you are the most glorified team in the whole competitive tf2 currently. If you had decent planing you would have streamed your scrims at least or uploaded handpicked vods to an official youtube channel and ask for the community support through donations (see: infused, broder, iM, etc...), you could have just involved with the community and contributed to it as a whole so much more.
It's simply not fair for teams in worse situations than you guys to take advantage of your status as a super team to ask for support with nothing in return (I get it you are offering perks to donators, but it would have made much more sense if you had put out some content while the season was still going on).
I'm not donating because I already donated for YOUR i49 fundraiser, and the broder fundraiser, and I'm just a poor college kid trying to make it at the end of the month.

Okay, I was told to post here and I'll be posting again when I have run all the numbers from the fundraiser, since that's a huge point of contention, and I was thinking of doing an update anyways SO WHY NOT THROUGH A THREAD EVERYONE HATES.
I'll also reiterate (non joking manner), that I have not read this because I'm trying to calculate numbers and I need to focus on that to make sure I have not missed a single cent.
As we're following the wording of the fundraiser to the teeth, we specified that we were going to cover 4 days of the LAN. All the other days are being covered by the HRG team themselves or through their sponsor. I don't know those details. However, we decided to have the dorms for 5 days (one more day BEFORE i49), which I paid for which will be paid back by HRG.
So the amount HRG (the team) owe me: $240.10 (lodging).
Okay, be back later with an update.
EDIT: removed information about the PCs, because that doesn't matter and isn't a part of HRG.

Fair points but when they say in the post "do not feel obligated to donate anyway. We realize the amount we're asking for is still considerably more than what other teams may ask for ($0)" I don't really think they deserve any of the hate. At least they're being completely open about the costs and such.

I think teams (people) are going to have to accept that funding from the community is going to be more and more difficult. We have been down this road for the past 5-6 seasons, just not to the extent that I48-49 that has tapped the community. While I understand the need for donations to get to Europe and finals, but how long can it last honestly? I think people need to start thinking about fundraising DURING the season, not all at the same time. Even if you look at it from a logical POV, you're helping by not waiting last minute.
BTW- This isn't a direct attack on HRG, it's more of a warning(another, since I made this point a few season ago too) that this cannot keep happening every single season. We, the Tf2 community and invite in general, need to figure out where to go from here in the future. Because asking from donations 3X a year and adding in European trips, ARE NOT Sustainable forever. We have to find out what to do now, instead of always pushing it back until the last minute.

If they really didn't want any money, they would not have created this thread. It should be a privilege to attend an international lan since you're representing the entire na community, I know for a fact teams like mixup will die for another chance to dominate eu. Getting a free ticket to Europe (fuck I love british chics) unlike the Aussies who had to pay the entire trip out of their pocket is already good enough. And if they knew finance was going to be a problem, there are more than enough teams willing to take their spot

I do agree with you, but Team Immunity did get some help with i49 finances. It was not nearly as much as HRG, but the community did contribute.

JasI could never support someone who requires money but refuses to sell their unusuals (which is after all, just a bunch of pixels).
If you require money that badly, the first thing to go would be some virtual pixels.
Interesting that shade and cyzer haven't replied to this yet

i dont understand
they've made it perfectly clear they're not desperate for $$$$$ they just want to have some community sponsorship so they're ensured that at worst they break even
they have plans they want to keep so they're seeing if enough people are interested in what they can give so they dont have to sacrifice
if you dont want to donate chill out and dont donate
if you're interested in the donation rewards or just want to help some brothers out then help em out
none of this has to affect you if you dont want it to

I love how people are getting mad at HRG *NOW* for asking for donations when multiple teams for multiple season have been asking for the community to send them to Dallas season after season.

It's more that they have a sponsor and are paying out of their own pockets to stay an additional week at i49. They could've used those funds to pay for the LAN expenses.

I'm not 100% sure since I haven't read every single post, but if teams /know/ that they're going to need money for lan, or w/e happens. Why do they always wait till the very last minute, promise all these people these things... and most of the time don't even carry it out to the end. I'm not sure why you guys (HRG) and Tri Hards too, didn't do anything for donations throughout the season. My team personally had blank streaming a bunch at the start (I know he slowly stopped streaming because he was lazy, and when I stream i get sub 120 fps while playing.) and he was also doing demo reviews (More so last season than this season imo) Like... if teams that knew they were making lan for sure pumped out content for the tf2 community through demo reviews, mentoring, etc, they would probably be more likely to donate for /your/ cause because you're helping them out too. I'm not saying that you guys won't do what you say, and that you don't mentor and demo review because I don't know what you guys do 24/7, but I haven't heard of any of the invite teams really mentoring and reviewing, maybe a handful of players at most do.
TL:DR - Don't know why you guys don't do all the things you're saying you'll do now during the season when all the other divisions are playing, then ask people to donate when you have a good amount of money already... my 4 cents

TL:DR - Don't know why you guys don't do all the things you're saying you'll do now during the season when all the other divisions are playing, then ask people to donate when you have a good amount of money already... my 4 cents

You're fucking stupid.
slinkyI love how people are getting mad at HRG *NOW* for asking for donations when multiple teams for multiple season have been asking for the community to send them to Dallas season after season.
This. Seriously, what's different this time?

rr-I'm not 100% sure since I haven't read every single post, but if teams /know/ that they're going to need money for lan, or w/e happens. sums it up fairly well
there's a certain group of players who seem to start streaming only when they want money (lansky on mix^ comes to mind) and then immediately stop after the lan is over. how about just streaming in general to help the community grow? maybe then people won't see you as acting entitled.

rr-Why do they always wait till the very last minute, promise all these people these things... and most of the time don't even carry it out to the end.
We email every single person that donates to us and add them to steam to work out getting them what we promised. Last season we had over 2 dozen people donate to our team, yet only about half of them replied to the emails I sent out, and even fewer were interested in any mentoring whatsoever. If someone feels like they haven't gotten what they expected from donating to us, please post and let me know and I will look into it.

You and everyone else who said this is completely right. We will have to handle it differently in the future. Unfortunately it's too late now, but we have learned our lesson.
