Hello I am bshear I made this made it is very good thank you
Great map, I like how the point caps faster than the standard ultiduo map, makes the match flow better.
I would really recommend swapping stairs for ramps on any map designed for soldiers (or any map in general). Nice looking map though

They just look like stairs, they clip like ramps for explosions, you must have not tried rampsliding on them.

I think it's a nice map, and fun to play, but it's really missing that traditional combo v combo feel that ultiduo is great for.
The height advantage of the spire makes it more of an mge match + heals, there isn't any opportunity to more effectively spam the opponent, it's all about your jumps, height advantage and airshots etc. I think it's a fun map but totally different from normal ultiduo and I'd like to see the old map being worked on as well.

Perhaps I'm mistaken then, but I've avoided a lot of deaths as a medic by hanging near the stairs and letting the clipping eat the enemy soldier's splash damage.

It can be proven by turning on r_drawclipbrushes, they are ramps.
*EDIT* I am dumb, this only applies to unit player, projectiles travel through. (Does not have collision as I thought it did)

That's the idea, it promotes faster play, if you want traditional height advantaged ultiduo then there is a map for it, it's called koth_ultiduo : ]

It is extremely easy to deny soldiers from the top if you want them to stay on the ground. I have played this map a lot and due to the length of the heal beam, soldiers don't go there a lot because you can easily get disconnected.

I really like the map. Its nice/well balanced.
I think the only thing I dont like is the HP is near the walls and no matter what you will take splash if a soldier just spams that way while taking it.
But yeah, its really hard to heal the soldier if he is standing on the point. The heal beam breaks pretty easy.
I do like playing ring around the point though. Very easy to hide and dodge around.

A huge problem I've encountered is getting a lot of damage on the opposing soldier, and then playing ring around the rosy trying to find him. Also you can shoot around the sides of the spire and deal damage without being in a danger zone. It's a cool map though, quite a bit of fun with friends.

That was actually intended in order to prevent people from sitting up there, the combo would have to take a calculated risk in going to go grab the health kit !

SideshowIt's not a ramp
Oh gosh, uhh, well, umm, totally placed specifically for escapes, the stairs are there to uhhh, prevent spamming the safe spawn I guess. Working perfectly as intended move along. Yeah

Can some provide download link for this map in dropbox form (I don't want to have to install a program just unzip one map).

There you go, only cuz I love the map so much.

Don't need to download any program to use mediafire links
*didn't notice that I didn't include an uncompressed link, sorry about that.*

It's the map file itself not mediafire.

Am I the only person who doesn't like this map? I feel like it gives height advantage to the team in control of the point, which is unnecessary. An ultiduo map should help out the team trying to take the point back.
The map also encourages ring around the rosey play like Maniac said. Original ultiduo map had it too with columns underneath but it wasn't as bad as this.
I guess I'm not just a fan because the map encourages defensive play on the whole. Large map, spire, health packs all encourage slow play. Original
map encourages pushing out onto the bridge and then juggling the other team into low ground. If you play back it punishes you because it's small and forces you into a wall at your back.
Beautiful map nonetheless.

I've had way more fun playing baloo than I have on koth_ultiduo, but I agree with slin that it's a little less balanced between offense/defense.
If you have a soldier who can pretty consistently hit airshots (or doesn't mind shotgun denying all day) it's very difficult to lose the point once you've taken it, unless the other guy hits some tough directs. The map is so big and it's so difficult to retake the point that it's not hard for the defending team to get an uber after just 1-2 holds, which gives them another 20-30 seconds off the clock.
That said, it's way better as a spectator map, and there is a meta to it that I enjoy, but it's a lot less in-depth than koth_ultiduo, at least as a medic. I just latch my beam on, stay connected as much as possible, and when i get disconnected, throw crossbows. There's a lot more to positioning and taking height in koth_ultiduo.
Both are great maps and I like that both are staples in the ultiduo tournaments that I've played in.

To be honest there aren't very many options when it comes to ultiduo maps so I'm not surprised...
I'm just saying that the next ultiduo map maker should take these things into consideration and make a 3rd, even greater map. One that makes the game fun for medics too. What made koth_ultiduo interesting is the positioning for the medic: surfing up to high ground, the timing of using the elevators, the strategy of kiting from one side of the map to the other. I loved that.
