kirbyof all threads to not get locked/deleted, i'm surprised this is it

It was a good, intelligent thread discussing the ethics and acceptance of obesity, until the unneeded nonsense about trans genders, in turn, should cause the nuking of this thread.

Honestly, if there was a forum section about debates,(without -+frags somehow) it would be fantastic, because we could discuss things like this in length without being told that it is a silly thing to talk about.

OK. I had some time to catch up on the posts. Incoming wall of text.

wafflebImagine the prettiest, sexiest girl you know.
Now imagine the ugliest, manliest guy you know.

The girl has a dick, and the guy has a vagina. The girl still identifies as a girl and vice versa.

Lets say you're a straight man. You have to pick one of them to kiss and be intimate with.

According to your opinion, the straight man would choose the manly, unattractive man, who you say is a woman. It is pretty likely that a straight dude would rather make out with this person - http://s3.amazonaws.com/cw-thoughts/615664/original.jpg over this person - http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3290/2896335920_ed187efe15.jpg (these are both transpeople, just to clarify)

The classification of "man" and "woman" are not rooted in biology.

This is one of the most nonsensical hypotheticals I've ever seen, anywhere. A straight dude would rather be intimate with neither of them. Technically, the feminine one is male and the masculine one is female, but I am attracted to neither--just as any actual straight man.

Yes, it is possible that I may see an m-to-f transgendered person and not immediately realize it. It is possible that that person may be physically attractive and I could be attracted to them while their sex is assumed female by me. I acknowledge that it's even possible that I could go years without being able to physically tell that person is male. I can assure you that in no case would I remain attracted to them after discovering their true sex. Does that make me a bigot? No, I don't think so. I think it makes me unable to love a person whose existence revolves around lying to me about their sex. I don't think that person is undeserving of love. To the contrary, I wish them the best of luck in finding a suitable partner--but it won't be me.

loljkyou could have saved yourself a lot of trouble by just saying you are bigoted rather than trying to pass off some sort of faux-rationality.

I could have saved myself a lot of 'trouble' by not posting anything at all, but it's a discussion thread, so I have no problem discussing it. You are more than welcome to label me a bigot if that makes you feel better, but a bigot by definition is intolerant and prejudiced. If you use the word 'prejudiced' to mean that I have a predetermined opinion, then I suppose I fall into that category, but I would argue that everyone who opposes my opinion is also prejudiced for the same reason. I am most certainly not intolerant. I am also not at all concerned about the human race ending due to a lack of reproduction. My comments regarding heterosexuality being biologically regular vs. homosexuality being biologically irregular aren't me indicating that I fear for the longevity of the human race, but rather my own principles with which you are welcome to disagree.

methodLegally, socially and emotionally/mentally a trans woman is a woman.
You can get married as a trans woman to a man in states where gay marriage is illegal.

Oh wait but somehow they're still a man!! Chromosomes mean actually nothing to the vast majority of the world and somehow you are using it as some sort of defining point in judging someone.

It's like okay you are right, they are a man, but the only way you will ever know about it is if they decide to tell you about it.

So, you agree with me: the m-to-f transgender is still a man. I am not judging that person; merely defining that person as a man, because that person is a man.

SparrowOut of curiosity, if the girl pictured was post-op, do you still consider "sexual relations with this person" to be "homosexual"?

This one was directed at bloodsire, but I will add that I would consider that a homosexual relationship because it involves two men. If I had no idea one person was a transgender, I wouldn't think anything of it, because it would visually appear to be a regular (man + woman) couple. It wouldn't even enter my mind unless there was some reason to assume the supposed woman was transgendered.

SparrowSo are you of the opinion that when you have two things that are functionally and aesthetically the same, viewing them as different due to invisible factors that you would be unaware of if you were not told is rational? I don't think you can really argue that it is rational, and while I don't necessarily blame you or think less of you for feeling that way, I think it's unrealistic of you to consider it not a bigoted opinion.

To further illustrate my point, I will provide an example.

A man, upon meeting a woman, finds her physically attractive and chooses to strike up a conversation with her, hoping to pursue a romantic relationship. During the conversation, the man learns that one of the woman's parents happens to be black. Upon learning this, the man no longer finds the woman attractive and is no longer interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with her because the fact that one of her parents is black makes him uncomfortable. Do you consider this man a bigot?

This scenario is odd. I would say the man is probably very strongly against blacks for some reason. Does that mean he's bigoted? Not necessarily, but it's certainly possible. Maybe he is so innately unattracted to blacks that it ruins the image of the woman for him. Is that bigoted? I would say most likely, but not necessarily. The reason behind the decision would be necessary to determine that.

HaXxorIzedThis is aimed at smaka, because I'm curious as to how this bit of information factors into your logic.

I've not previously heard of this, and I've never considered it. I could believe it to be accurate if adequate data existed to really convey it is accurate, but it does not change my opinions on the matter.

methodtranswomen are legally considered female

This might be true, but I will exercise my right to disagree with that assessment. Do you agree with every legality in the world? If you say yes, I do not believe you. A court of law declared that George Zimmerman legally killed Trayvon Martin, but does the entire world agree with that?

Not_MatlockThe government also classifies suppressors as firearms. Doesn't mean it's true.

They also classify black powder/muzzleloader weapons as 'dangerous weapons' but not 'firearms' because they don't utilize cartridges. How dumb can they be?!

wafflebThe point is, bloodsire, is that if you saw a pretty woman, you would call her pretty. If you later find out that she is trans, does that make her less pretty? You're missing the point of the burger analogy.

This isn't directed at me, but I will answer it anyway. I would think that person was still an attractive person. I would not consider them 'pretty' because I associate that word with females, and upon knowing the truth, I would not consider that person female.

OK. I had some time to catch up on the posts. Incoming wall of text.

wafflebI mean you cant really justify your bigotry towards trans people with poop burgers im sorry

You seem to be under the delusion that anyone who disagrees with you is a bigot. There is not a person in this thread (to the best of my knowledge, but it's possible I missed a disparaging post) who is acting bigoted toward transgender people. Let me define this word for you.

smakersIf anything, by the very definition of the word, you are being bigoted toward me by constantly displaying your intolerance of my beliefs and opinions. This is the very point I attempted to make in my first post: that many (I would even venture to say most) of the people fighting for rights in the LGBT community are incredibly hypocritical because they want the world to be tolerant, accepting, and welcoming of their opinions, but they are simultaneously vehemently intolerant of anyone who does not tolerate, accept, and welcome their opinions.

Welcome to the world of cis white male grief. Get used to it, it doesn't go away.

Does it really matter who you're attracted to?

I mean yeah if you can't get over the fact that someone has different body parts than you originally thought then I mean it's not really a big deal, just move on, ya know

Some people are totally fine with dating whoever and some aren't

That being said, this:

smakers I would not consider them 'pretty' because I associate that word with females, and upon knowing the truth, I would not consider that person female.

I really don't agree with that and that really sucks that you feel that way but hey, whatever

Also the fact that pretty is a word that can be used for whatever, not just females

whatever though

edit: I say whatever a lot

To be completely honest it would be a huge turn off if I found out the girl I was dating was a trans. It definitely would feel like I've been lied to. You can argue it's not lying blah blah, but you are hiding the truth and deceiving the person.
