I need a mic to replace my shitty headset mic. I heard the zalman is good, but are there unidirectional mics that have good quality but just as cheap?
Also, any other mics that are good but still under 15-20 dollars?

P sure mod mics are around 30ish last time I checked.
Also the zalman is great for a short term mic. I heard it doesn't last long but for the price, it's worth it.

Modmic sound quality depends on your sound chip/card. On motherboard sound, the Modmic and Zalman probably won't sound much different. To get better quality, you could buy a $30 sound card (Asus Xonar DG), which, combined with the Modmic, is around the price of the Blue Snowball on Amazon currently.
Keep in mind that this is all conjecture. I plan on buying the Xonar DG to complement my Modmic; I'll see how that turns out first.
Edit: I should mention that your motherboard sound could be completely fine. I'd try that first.

I've used modmic but now zalman, same problem but I found a neat fix: using Velcro wraps or zip ties every 8 inches or so of cord, then bundling both headset and mic cords together to eliminate slack. Works good so far. I also found knots instead of ties to also work well. Just won't look as clean.

Yeah I have one of these. Pretty sensitive, too. Even on -10db mode you can hear just about everything in my room, and the sound quality is fantastic.

If you do go the 3.5mm route, take a look into the USB adapter featured in the video I'm linking below. It might diffuse some of the issues with say the Mod Mic.
