Hi, when I'm playing alone on various servers (mostly jump servers) my FPS goes up to 2000 and my game starts to freeze. I have tried locking down my FPS but that didn't work (it fixed the freezing but added huge mouse lag). Is there any way to fix this please?
a lot of people cap at 121 (60hz or 241 120hz etc). If it gets to 1000 it screws up mouse movement and stuff
Setting fps_max 601 is pretty good. That freezing shit happens I think when your fps goes over 1000, or at least something fucks up when that happens (I'm sure of it) so it may be that.
PacifistHow do people get 2,000 fps? I barely get 30

I game with tf2 on my laptop and get around 100fps fairly consistently when I run on maxed graphics, and easily 100+ when I turn the quality down a bit. And its nowhere near being a top of the line laptop:P Cost to hardware value laptops are still nothing compared to PCs but they aren't anywhere near as bad as they used to be.

I thought there was an FPS limit eventually. I remember getting around 1300 and it wouldn't budge any higher, but 2000 holy shit
I'm on an i5-3570K with fps going up to 1300 fps on an empty server (as server fills up of course it goes down to 300 sometimes) but my mouse movement is always fine, whether or not my fps is over 1000
I would get this sometimes on Jump maps or other servers that are not particularly resource intensive. Things get all jumpy when the fps gets above a certain point (circa 1000), it feels like the game's ticks can't actually keep up with your framerate. As others have pointed out, capping at 121/241/289 _should_ fix this. It did for me, at least.
people are complaining about TOO MUCH fps?
fuck you guys D:

Sedosdoesn't source cap fps at 300 anyway?
uhhhhh no
fps_max is 300 by default but thats it

that's like saying "isn't cl_interp locked at .1?"
can you imagine?

From what I've seen, the general rule for fps is your hz value times 2 plus 1
n00pe You have no idea how annoying these freezes are.
speaking from experience with 20-50fps i'm well aware how annoying freezing is lol

Actually, he's right. The Source engine only outputs a maximum of 300 FPS, despite what cl_showfps displays.

hawlerfirst world problems u_u
You obviously never experienced this issue. I will try to record what does it actually look like as soon I get home.

It's actually even worse at some point.
Edit: I've tried locking FPS and it seems to work but it adds little bit of mouse lag (no idea why..).

i wish i was having problems for having too much fps :(

I don't wanna be rude or anything but I think you guys miss the point. I'd rather have much lower and stable fps over having peaks up to 2000 frames per second. As I said earlier fps_max seems to work but I really don't know how to get rid of that mouse lag.
