thrasherCan we just push everything back one week? If the client isn't gonna be fixed today then the schedules are going to be totally fucked (more than they already are).
If we just push everything back a week it'll give ESEA a chance to get the client fixed, matches will be scheduled without any problems, and we won't have to bug killing and kalkin about it.
But the CS games have been going on without a hitch. Also it'll fuck up every other leagues schedule since it's all automated

Oh I didn't know it was just tf2 that was having the problem. I assumed it was the whole league. Ok so nvm my idea.

Pretty sure ESEA wants to keep everything in sync; we'd be a week behind CS and LoL then.
Although, that's probably going to essentially be what will happen.

I haven't joked around about anything.
What I'm saying is that you could have been a lot more upfront and professional from the begining of this whole thing, obviously this got out of hand now but a huge part of the uproar could have been avoided or at least toned down if the whole situation was clear from the begining, and despite not having anything to do with the client you play the central part there since you are the "face" of ESEA.
Which is why my exact question is how could I have been more upfront and professional?

Well, just out of curiosity, how do your conversations with the people who have contact with the client manager go? Do you just call and they say we're working on it it'll be ready tomorrow just wait and you're just like okay whatever? If so, and if you aren't doing this already I think a better course of action from a business employee and somewhat-customer-service head for the TF2 community, you are basically the voice of our best interests. So as I said earlier, lobbying for them to change and telling them to basically stop dicking around because it's really hurting your business as we are all paying customers.
It's common sense, a happy customer makes a happy company.

As I stated before, just relaying information and making people aware. Communication is key. All of us here know that you aren't the ESEA Client Engineer. You are the Voice (messenger). You are supposed to give information when necessary and constant updates to show you "care" about your clientele. What could you have done better? Well...
I am on these forums on a daily basis and not once did I see a post about how the Client will be down for this week (if there was one, please point me to it). As other people pointed out, how long did you (ESEA) need to get the client working? Another month? If you did not know it was going to be down, then obviously the "engineer" is not communicating well enough to you (or you to him). ESEA sure as hell will spam a mass email to all users about paying their fees on time, but no email in regards to the client having issues? Communication.
Did you and other ESEA admins know about this before this week? If so, why weren't matches pushed out until this was fixed? If not, why don't you communicate better with your company? We don't need an update every hour, but we at least want reliable information. Customer Service isn't always about getting things fixed, it's about putting the customer at ease with honesty and communication instead of unrealistic standards and false promises. It is built upon trust. All these people pay money and trust that ESEA is the best system for competitive gaming, but come to find out, they paid for something that doesn't even work?
Even as admins, you could have held a raffle of some sort. A way to show you're "sorry" by raffling something off free due to "our" (ESEA) incompetence. A free month of ESEA Premium? An unusual? I don't know, something that a good customer service rep would offer?
Ok, I'll stop there for now.

Kalkin told everyone at the captain's meeting to check that their premium works ahead of time.
I can't even see if it kicks me cause the damn thing crashes before I can even exit the MOTD.

They should just make a tf2 version of the client that just allows you to connect to the servers and nothing else. It's not like it actually catches cheaters.

I feel like I should weigh in on a lot of the thoughts about killing. In this situation I don't really see him doing anything wrong. Killing gets a ton of messages every day and I can understand how that can get annoying, however as others have said, it's a paid job, and while he does a lot for this community his people skills are horrible. 95% of the time I've had to message killing for help, even if its a last minute emergency, I get told to "submit a ticket", usually with a lot of attitude behind it. One time a few seasons ago he told me he'd only help me if I played, and beat him in a 1v1 in Starcraft... Not professional at all. On the other side of the admin coin, kalkin always takes care of problems almost immediately when it's in his power to do so.
For years killing was a total prick to have to deal with. While he has matured since then I think a lot of us still remember how bad things used to be. Like I said, in this situation he hasn't done anything wrong, so maybe we should cut him some slack.

Killing you must have a pretty shitty memory if you don't recall being flippant or a straight up pissant to people when you weren't scheduled to work
Sucks that Lopert just didn't give a fuck

I believe Jaguar used to be main client coder for ESEA, and he was let go after the bitcoin fiasco. Maybe his replacement is having a difficult time.

Thanks for the update. I guess i'm just gonna get drunk and play wii u. Anyone wanna come? I got beer, cider and wine; some couches and a bunch of video games that don't need a client to play.

I swear people forget there is another admin.
Killing is literally punished because he is the more active admin that works overtime and does extra work that he does not have to.
I doubt most of the people in here complaining about Killing *who has no control over ESEA updates* would not put up with half of the stuff or do half as much as Killing does.

I just want to weigh in and say that ever since I started playing esea in S13 both Killing and Kalkin have been highly supportive in every technical aspect of the league, as in giving an immediate answer and solution whenever there was a problem that was esea's fault.
this whole client situation kinda gives me the sad feeling that the league that we've been supporting and that we were looking forward to expand to EU is falling apart after about 10 years of being rolling and doesn't have control over this very essential thing of their business that is the client.

Bubbawhat happens if you play match offline?
You would have to report the match as a forfeit which could cost you later in the season if you need the extra rounds for a tiebreaker or something.
