Hey guys, so I'm planning on getting a 120hz monitor for christmas. Now, the thing is I'm not sure which one to choose. I've already looked at the 120hz monitor thread, and so far the best choice to me money & quality wise seems to be the ASUS 144hz one, cause I save enough money to buy a good headset with it. Now, does anyone have the asus 144hz and should I buy it or not? Also, are the colors really that bad out of the box?
Thanks for the answers in advance

Colors aren't actually bad for the Asus. They are a bit dimmer than preferred but it isn't hard to get used to it.
I still think the extra 24 hz isn't as good as lightboost but if you don't want to deal with lightboost then go with the 144hz.

The colors on the Asus look fine within the week and it's totally worth it for the lightboost.

You can use Lightboost on the Asus.
You can configure color settings like every other monitor in the world. Don't factor in color accuracy when you're buying a TN monitor.

Euro: BenQ 144hz
NA: Asus 144hz
Same panel, benq cheaper for euros, asus cheaper for NA

Might as well get the Asus now since it's on sale. I know that you said it was for Christmas but maybe explain to, I assume, parents that they should buy it now to save money.

I have the ASUS 144 Hz - compared to my other display, which is a 24" IPS panel, the colors are less rich/saturated but I think images look fine on it. It's my main display now and I'm satisfied with my purchase.
Also the colors out of the box weren't terrible; I think one of the Amazon reviews mentioned another monitor review site where people posted their calibrated settings so you could get some idea of what values tend to work for these monitors. After messing around with the settings a little I got it to where I like it.

asus all the way.
the colors it comes with are a little ugly but you can google the best color settings in like 5 minutes, its all preference..

Never had a problem with the Asus, still probably the best out there.

I'd go with the Asus, this review gets really in-depth with the colors and motion blur etc..

also if you want to be first on the g-sync train, the vg248qe is the only current model that has a confirmed g-sync upgrade in the pipeline

question,
Is it worth buying a 120/144hz monitor if you don't get a consistent 240 fps ingame?

Thanks for the answers, guys! Most likely going to go with the asus 144hz, looks like a better choice than the BenQ to me. Appreciate the help :)

Also keep in mind it's going to make the colours extremely shitty with lightboost on either way.

No, I just recently got this one, scan lines in the top right corner.
When lightboost is enabled the scanlines are unbearable.. So in short, lightboost is screwed with that monitor.

No idea which 144hz monitor you're talking about :(
But the BenQ XL2420TE is from what I have heard an amazing screen with nice colors, thought it is quite expensive(a lot actually).

I have the Samsung 700 SERIES S23A700D. It's beautiful straight out the box. Got mine for $218 new a few months ago. Amazon had a random sale. Although, they have it "Used - Like New" on Amazon for $225

Best 120hz display I've seen all around. Samsung makes awesome screens.
