So, does anyone know how to get this to work for TF2? I just saw they added it in this last patch for TF2 but I can't seem to get it to work just yet, haven't really found anything else that would help.
Configure -> Settings -> Plugins -> Link to game and transmit position
there's sv_mumble_positionalaudio but it's set to 1 by default. I think all you need to do is enable positional audio in mumble.
You will also need to enable positional audio in audio output.
i'm confused...is this positional audio for mumble? what would that do
Yes, Valve officially added support for it in the last update.
oh. i get it now. http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Positional-Audio
does it display everyone at the same volume just from a different spot? i'm worried you'd get quieter if farther away

pretty sure it's useless if you don't have a 5.1 setup

Voices will not be sent to both speakers if they aren't right behind or in front of you.

unless they use binaural audio. you can do positional audio on the shittiest headsets with binaural audio, just google virtual haircut and you'll see what i mean

You can set the minimum volume for positional audio to 100% which means it won't be any quieter than your default.

Is the person on the other team? I was having this problem too but I'm not sure if it's for both teams.
Also, this only seems to work if the in-game names begin the same as the Mumble names.
I was playing in a pug yesterday and it wasn't working.

Does this only work if all people have positional audio on? That would explain some of my problems.

I believe this is the only way it works, could possibly explain why people are hearing players in random regions because some people have it on and some people have it off

The main effect was fixing the mumble overlay for many players, especially fullscreen. You no longer need to add the "-nod3d9ex" option to get the overlay.
It worked for me but it's barely noticeable. I dunno why back in Bad Company 2 the effect was REALLY noticeable. I could hear where my friends were on the other team.
I would use it, but I can't seem to find Team Fortress 2 in the list of supported games, which is weird considering it's there for Left 4 Dead 2.
