the infrastructure isn't built to handle high winds and rains of even a cat 1, just like some places aren't prepared to handle X natural phenomenon that isn's common in that area.

10-15 foot storm surge and an awful lot of rain means flooding & probably power outages, and people aren't really used to dealing with lots and lots of water everywhere in the northeast
i know it's not like the exciting category five hurricanes you get down on the gulf of mexico and their thrilling tales of hurricane hunter derring-do but seriously, as a former resident of the north carolina coast, fuck that shit. way nicer to live in a part of the world where every autumn doesn't bring trees falling on your house, tornadoes wrecking your car or washed out highways

this reminds me of guam. big typhoons leaving the island without power for weeks. i remember having the storm hit for a few hours, then going outside during the eye of the storm. it was so serene. of course, i had to get back inside unless i wanted a dumpster to smack me or a tree to fall on me for the second half of the storm.

Why did you mention Chicago? NWI is an hour and a half away, weather can definitely be different. The winds were gusting consistently so often throughout the day, and these gusts were around 50mph. My point is, I hate wind.
Tomorrow, winds are supposed to be around 47mph and gust to around 60mph throughout the day. noty
