Anyone here use the Dell U2412M? I'm considering it because it seems like a really good quality monitor and looks like it has good all around performance, but I'm wondering what others think about it when it's used for gaming.

Ah idk it only has 8ms response time and 60hz.
Heared that the colors on it look really good though.

Id go for a Benq instead.

I've had one for two years or so. I really like it overall, but after seeing/using 120 hz monitors there really is no contest. If the rest of your hardware can give you 120+ fps I'd get a 120hz monitor instead of the dell.

I've had a pair of them for about 6 months.

If FPS games are a huge thing for you then nothing beats a 120hz monitor, but every single other activity you do on your computer is improved by having a high quality IPS monitor, including every game that isn't an FPS.

I have been using VA/IPS monitors for many years and as previously stated, they're amazing for pretty much anything but high speed gaming. I think my monitor has 27ms of input lag lol.

It does look like a really good quality monitor, but I am not sold on the price/performance of it. idk I just feel like for that price you can get a better IPS monitor, or a similar one for less.

Would a Benq 144hz (or 120hz maybe) monitor be good for general use, such as movies, web browsing, etc.? I was thinking about getting a monitor with a high refresh rate but it was sounding like I'd enjoy a nice IPS more. With a Benq, are the colors horrible, or are they around average and just "horrible" when compared to an IPS?

The new XL 2420TE is pretty much the best performance monitor with the best colors from BENQ atm.

But that one is expensive as hell

So you think that's a better choice than the ASUS VG248QE?

If you really care about colors then get an ips because it's impossible for any tn panel to even come close.

Well looking at some comparisons, the XL2420TE has better colors. The performance is give or take the same.

But the VG248QE, has from what I can see, some kind of a upgrade to it, when nvidias G-sync will be released and that supposedly will remove any input lag in any game.

EDIT: Personally I think I would get the ASUS one :>

I'm not doing any photo or video editing so I don't need perfect colors. In fact, I think I'd enjoy a higher refresh rate compared to "wow" colors.

I'm just wondering if the colors bother anyone when they're doing general computer tasks, like watching a Youtube video, or writing some code.

Well I have a XL2411T, the colors are sharp but the way they get blended in is awful, the shading is just blocky. But for games it's decent/good, sadly I got a shitty panel so I get scanning lines if I use strobe light or go above 120hz

Great colours, 16:10, quality? Yeah this monitor has great reviews especially for how much it offers for the cheap (relative) price. TBH on a comp tf2 forum yeah people are going to suggest 120hz monitors, but only a few fps would even take advantage of that (tf2, cs, and quake is all I can think of). Any other game would look pretty amazing on this thing. It's a great monitor, I think you should get it.

Here's a really REALLY detailed review of it:

I think you've made a really good point. If I were choosing a monitor back when I mostly used my computer to play TF2, I think I would have chosen one with a 120hz (or 144hz now) refresh rate, but at this point I think the IPS would be better for me.

Thanks everyone for the input.

As everyone's said it's got really good colors but it's not the best choice for TF2. The best thing ever for me though as a second monitor for graphic design and such.

You kids and your colors. Gah. I have two 2412M displays at work and three of the newest 144hz displays at home and unfortunately can tell no difference in colors.

I can say without a doubt, though, that 120hz or higher is a thousand times better when non-gaming than 60hz as far as I am concerned. The smoothness of the mouse coupled with the lack of any image ghosting/blurring far surpasses anything I would ever gain by colors/contrasts on IPS panels.

I have a spectacular 30" monitor as a sidekick that looks great, but 60hz is freakin' awful to look at when any kind of motion is occurring.

I'm guessing you already pulled the trigger, but I have 2 Dell U2412m at work, and I have a Asus VG248QE at home.

While the colors are nice on the Dell's it's not that big of a difference, I certainly wouldn't choose it over 144hz if I played any kind of games. The only case where I'd pick the dell's is if I was doing important color work, but then again I'm a smooth frame junky.

After calibrating my Asus I really don't notice a glaring difference when I get home. 144hz is pleasant.

I did get the Dell, but I'm considering buying either an Asus or Benq 144hz and using it for a little bit like a day or two and then using the Dell for a day or two and deciding which I like more.
