TF2 Bunny Hopping

I was wondering if there are any pros out there that practice bunny hopping a lot? I'm not sure what the use for it would really be, as the speed gains are negligable, but there are some cool jumps you could do with it. Are there really any other tips for it? I know there are a lot of people that tend to bind jump to the mousewheel, but would there be another way to be able to hit the jumps reliably? I really would like to learn to bhop, but I'm afraid the time investment in being able to to it well isn't worth it. Any opinions?

Oh, and I know they are strafe jumps. I'm just used to using bunny hopping.

Also, if this isn't relevant whatsoever, please just say, it is my first post.

in tf2, bhopping isn't reliable enough nor does it give enough of a benefit to be worth practicing. There are people who mess around with it and like you said, there are a couple of cool jumps to be done, but it's not really worth the time investment that could be spent doing any of a dozen other things.

Even if you perfectly bunnyhop, your speed gets limited to 120% whenever you jump. So since people fuck up, it ends up not being worth trying.

It was this guy specifically that got me thinking about it. I wasn't aware that he played competetitively, I was wondering about the viability from a competetive side.

I think its pretty easy and useful as medic. You can go almost as fast as scouts if you do it right, and if you're going down a slope you can easily keep up with them. Bhopping is so easy in the source engine that there's no reason you shouldn't do it. If you want to practice bhopping though, just go play bhop maps in CSS.

As med it's useful, and for utility classes it might be useful to get into a few spots for hiding or something. No point in learning it for comp play if you main soldier/demo though.

anybody know how bhopping works with the escape plan? If you're at >40 HP you will be going 96% of the scout's speed, so if you bunnyhop you should be able to go at least a little past the speed of a scout right?

If you were amazing you could probably tie scouts to mid on some maps.
