There was a huge blizzard that started ~2d ago that covered a decent amount of Indiana, some of Chicago (more than likely surrounding towns/cities) and whatever states it passed by before here. For the first two days it was around 17-20 below during the day and 40-50 below at night. I believe I heard it was the worst blizzard for my area--and Chicago, I think--since '98. It's not nearly as bad now, though still in subzero temperatures during the night and close to during the day.
Was anyone else a part of this mess? How are you doing now? My heater hasn't been working well lately, so it was kind of shitty but it could have been worse. I guess I'm just concerned since it was pretty bad. At least here anyway.

Yeah it was bad enough that in my area there was a state emergency telling us not to go on the roads, and i also had to run hot water through my sink to make sure the pipes didn't freeze. Definitely one of the worsts storms only second to the one that was about 2-3 years ago where i had snow that went all the way up to my roof which was a bitch shoveling out.

Central Indiana here. No school Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday (although Monday was already scheduled off) and no one was allowed to drive here due to a travel warning.
My brother had to go into work (he delivers pizza) even though we were still under a travel warning. We're now under a watch.

I watched the snow come down for a while, then went to bed. The next day, I awoke to find my dog being particularly floppy. She only gets floppy-like when something is really stressing her out. That's when I realized she wasn't able to go outside because a snow drift had completely covered the door she uses to go outside. That was fun.
Our road is completely impassable, I got a call from the highway department saying they *might* start plowing today. We got about 12-13 inches of snow or more, the drifts are some of the biggest I've seen since 99'. Maybe I will be able to leave the house, but I'm assuming I won't be able to make a food run until Thursday - so my braving the INSANITY in the grocery store this last weekend was worth it.

The two major highways I live right next to were shut down for around 2-3 days. I believe today they reopened them, despite them not being in ideal conditions. Unfortunately, it's the only road I live by, except some back roads, which rarely ever get plowed. My town was in a state emergency for a couple days as well, though I'm not sure what the news is on that. We're probably off of it now, but we're supposed to get more snow throughout the week until Saturday, so we'll see. Fortunately, we didn't get any snow today like the people said there might be.
Shoveling has never been so fun.

This is my 3rd snow-day... 30 inches of snow the last 2 days. The first 2 snow-days were because of visibility. Today they took the plows off the road because there was too much snow to push. All of the roads within a 50km radius are shutdown. Pretty awesome, probably has something to do with living right on Lake Huron.

I think about -40F = -40C, its the only time they're equal iirc. The rest of the time it varies I think. It's annoying in the UK when the papers get all excited because it's high 20's in Celsius and start using Fahrenheit because bigger numbers are more exciting and I have to go look up what the temperature actually is.

Southern Wisconsin here. No snow luckily but it got down to around -35F the past couple days with windchill. Car battery bricked, had to miss work monday. Looks like the worst is gone now though. High of 30 above for the weekend :^)

central indiana here, we'll likely be off school tomorrow too. Kinda sucks because I haven't entered any grades or anything yet and it'll be a massive rush to get it done on the day we go back. I went out yesterday. It took about 45 minutes to dig my car out and get it warmed up enough to drive. Really nasty stuff, especially after last winter when we didn't really get anything.

I remember the '99 storm. I lived out in the county with my grandparents at the time and my brother and I scared them half to death by jumping off the roof into the drifts. We missed about a week of school.

We missed like 3 weeks of school here in 99' it was right after Christmas break ended too so we got like a full month off of school + 1 week or some nonsense. It was the best time to be a kid ever lol.
They're apparently *thinking* about putting the kids back in school around Friday here - but I have my doubts. Even the major highways here are still sheets of ice. Even with 4wd I didn't dare go faster than 20 mph.

we were supposed to go back tomorrow with a 2 hour delay but a bunch of water lines broke in the schools so i'm off another day AND a delay on Friday. Ridiculous. So much time off.
