hi there friends
as the titles says, I want to make TF2 in dx9 look as much like dx8 as possible
I like the darker look of the game in dx8 and information is clearer, but the fact you can't see your medic beam actually hurts me in game (I don't use viewmodels and it's hard to tell when I'm healing someone, I know, I'm retarded)
is there anyway to use console commands to make dx9 look like dx8? (would mat_phong work?)
also needs to be allowed in ESEA/CEVO plz

Platypusmat_phong 0 in autoexec
is mat_phong really that all-inclusive? I haven't tried this command out yet but I will now

Yup, pretty much removes all "shine"

If you disable the mark that appears when you heal someone you will be able to see the heal beam.

I use dx8 and I can see my medibeam just fine. Just set viewmodel_fov to a nonzero value

For some reason my medibeam dissapears after a couple seconds of healing somebody. Is that because i'm in dx8 or some other config? I usually use the viewmodel_fov 0 so the beam isnt there but when i do have it on it's annoying.
edit thanks dude

#5 has the solution for that

I had this problem for awhile when I switched. I ended up using viewmodel_fov 0 with hud_medichealtargetmarker 1 (No healbeam) but when you first latch on someone there is this little particle burst that makes it fairly obvious who you're on. Also having a larger targetID in your HUD makes your life a whole lot easier. Only kinda weird thing about viewmodel_fov 0 is that you cannot see where needles are going if you leave it on.

oh. well this entire thread is useless if I can see my medic beam in dx8 with one simple option.
thanks for the info everyone
