So i just got back off holiday to see there's a new update. So me and my friend were playing and i noticed my fps was just horrible. Normally im getting 250-299 solid constantly but now when im fighting players its going down below 60. I've been using chris high frames and my pc specs are more than enough for tf2

i7 2600k @ 4.7
gtx 660ti
8gb ram

I have no idea how to fix it. I tried verifying my game cache. tried turning multi core rendering off and trying it that way but it was worse. Any one else having this issue?. Any help would be much appreciated

might be a harddrive problem because im getting the same shit and the only possible reason i can think of is that my harddrive is ancient and also dying

If you have an nVidia gfx card and the GeForce Experience or whatever, look in task manager and make sure that you don't have 50 copies of nvidiasvc.exe running. I have had that happen twice, both times during scrims and i don't know why. I am not sure what it is or why it opens, and you can't close it because it's needed for something. Only way I found to fix was to restart the computer. The two times it happened were spread over about a month, with the 2nd one happening last week. Doesn't seem to be a regular thing, but it drops me from ~200fps to 10-20.

This has been a regular occurrence over the past year or so, with each update screwing with peoples FPS more and more. Back when I built my PC I was hitting a comfortable 750+ fps on a full 20 slot server. 4 months down the line and it chunked down to around 300 overnight after a single update. The update that followed reduced it a further 200fps, putting it around 100, sometimes dropping as low as 60 in midfights (and this is in 6v6 games).

Since then I have reinstalled TF2 onto my SSD and although it's helped with loading times (as you would expect), my FPS is still significantly lower than what it should be.

Whilst that's not much to complain about on my end (some people play with much less and are a fuck tonne more skilled than I am), it's pretty dumb how updates have somehow made such a large difference to some peoples fps...

Perhaps as Benson said reinstalling Windows will fix it, but I haven't got the patience to do that so guess I'll be sitting tight for a while...

I had GOD AWFUL FPS problems a few weeks ago, so I theorized that perhaps some part of chris' FPS config was now out moded and breaking things, so I just removed the whole thing from my auto exec and manually turned everything down - my FPS still gets more jittery than it used to, but it's generally much better.

just wondering, is it necessary to have geforce experience running at all? i dont use the streaming feature or anything from it at all (besides the video card part of course).

Really? So should I remove maxframes, maybe keeping some stuff like no gibs and no ragdolls and such?

TerraReally? So should I remove maxframes, maybe keeping some stuff like no gibs and no ragdolls and such?

Well, tbh chris has been inactive for more than a year now I think, the configs should all work around the same but its almost sure there might be a couple of cvars that are not as optimized as they could.

As for the problem OP faced, its all due to the poor optimization of the game, I already made a thread, not very long ago, venting the exact same frustration I have with this game, despite having a good pc

I don't use it either, but it installed itself with the driver(s) and I am not really sure if uninstalling it will mess something up.

It may be a bug that your game have low fps/jitter. I thought it was my computer over heating but if I restart TF2 or my computer it fixes it.

People often leave their computers on for 6+ hours a day including long gaming sessions. Always try restarting your computer or 'letting it cool down'.
