people take their own sweet time to get 6 in the server and ready up whenever dm mod is installed in on a server.
Yeah don't like the DM mod idea, warm up before you get in the server.
One thing, when scheduling matches can you make the NY/VA/ATL servers available to us. As of now, the only way to get those servers is if an admin manually switches it for you.

People might also just stay on their dm/mge servers instead of connecting to the server since they know there's no dm on the servers. I think it goes both ways.

Not to be too much of a downer, and I know I'm not even playing in ESEA this season, but this thread seems really odd to me. I think it's cool ESEA was able to make it another season, but so far this hasn't been a very good feedback thread in my opinion.
For starters, Killing made a thread just like this before the season started, and it was pretty much a repeat of what people have said in the past. This thread has seen the exact same suggestions as that one, but the responses have all seem to be "Sorry, we can't do that" or "We'll look into it"; these are the same answers we had back in January, so what's the point of this thread if nothing has changed?
Don't get me wrong; it's great that ESEA's staff are being more engaged with the TF2 community, but it seems to me like nothing's changed.

Yeah this just seems like a way for ESEA to make it seem like they care about the community when in reality its just a marketing ploy that changes nothing.

I agree. we've heard it from Killing. we've heard it from Shooter.
"we're working on it"
"I've noted it to tell the team"
"the team is working on it"
"we're looking into it"
it's always the same. when does "working on it" turn into "here it is"?

ESEA-ShooterI would much prefer to fix the issues (as we do right now), than take the matches elsewhere. I doubt it takes hours, after hours to change a server on ESEA.
Point I was making is we shouldn't have to change servers on esea period, let alone multiple times. If we HAVE to it should be to the same location which we couldn't due to routing issues and server crashing. Changing the server doesn't take a long time but it resets that half hour startup time each team gets before the server changes. Sometimes it does take hours when you need multiple server changes and if you don't believe me it has been streamed before. Mix that in with the client not working randomly for some people and it can be atrocious.
Maybe make an ESEA section called "Client for Dummies" that lists obvious things one shouldn't do while using the client. Most people still don't know you want to let the client open TF2 up for you as opposed to already having it open, then opening the client afterward.

I don't think we should bash Shooter for trying here. I don't think he's a programmer, more of like a middle man that admins and passes along the good word. That is if I had to assume. Maybe he's noting things to implement for the following season and not in the middle of one. Who knows. Only Shooter can answer that.
could you guys fix the lag at the beginning of the match?
Where are the writers? Read somewhere they got fired. ESEA should have hired some more at the beginning of the season if they cared about tf2. I haven't been able to follow this season at all and even if I wanted to there are no articles for me to get caught up.
ESEA-ShooterblinKStill dodging the compensation though! How about this. If there are server issues going on, why not put in a rule that allows us to run our own servers using the ESEA configs of course as long as both teams agree. Then we can just forward the scores to admins to input manually into the website. This would save your admins from being bombarded on bad nights and allow us to get our games done without having to wait hours upon hours to get a 10 minute match done with. Didn't even mention the client issues. It either goes really well or really horrible. There should be alternatives.
I would much prefer to fix the issues (as we do right now), than take the matches elsewhere. I doubt it takes hours, after hours to change a server on ESEA.
Yet 16 seasons later and the client/server selection is still terrible. Looking into other options at this point seems reasonable to fix issues esea is either unwilling or unable to fix.

ESEA-Shootercyzer3. My suggestion of lowering backup fees, see my reasoning at #183. That's not possible, unfortunately.
4. Some sort of backup plan on those days the client downright breaks because of a TF2 update or the client is just broken, maybe ESEA servers that can be put up that aren't required by the client in case of emergencies or the sort. And perhaps can be put up quickly in case it's a high profile match and stv isn't working. Dunno, just a thought.. though the client seems better this season although it might just be because I'm not using it as much.
4. Like I've said earlier, things should be fixed, and not sent somewhere else. I think ESEA has made great improvements for the updates (I think we didn't have any downtime this season, thanks to the client team) :)
Ok so for my questions
(I had better explanations for these questions but my internet decided otherwise.)
1. Why is it impossible for ESEA to implement lower fees for backups?
2. If this suggestion is impossible, what can ESEA do to encourage teams to get backups?
It is a bitter pill for a team/player to pay league fees for a player that is maybe only playing a few games a season and ESEA has to deal with the shit that come from rescheduling/fixing a situation that come from a lack of backups, so what is ESEA's plan to fix this problem.
3. If a client or any issues ESEA side causes a match to be delayed and neither team can field six until it starts to interfere with next week/rounds matches which are determined by that delayed match, what is ESEA's solution to the problem they caused?
I ask this specific question with a situation Kalkin had with IM (?) playoffs a season or two back in mind (people can correct me if I am completely off base) but I don't think full knowledge of the situation is needed to answer. However that situation and my inference of your response to number 4 leads me to my next question.
4. Why is ESEA so adamant and unwilling to create an off client solution for a client caused problem?
I agree with that sentiment of fixing things and not pushing them off elsewhere and, from it sounds like, the client is better. However unless you are willing to say that there will never be an issue with the client or that issues with the client will be solved in such a manner that they will never affect match times, there is going to be problems that will need to be addressed in a different way. Just having an off client option wouldn't make it the default go to but for extreme cases, I don't see why it wouldn't be there.

ESEA-ShooterpotWhy do virgina/cali/ny/georgia servers even exist? The money could go towards more chi/dal/denver servers
These servers are used by a lot of teams, so I'm not sure why taking them down would benefit the players.
The main reason that people have to use them is because everyone gets the good servers first. If you take more than a day to negotiate a match time, you're almost guaranteed to have all the Chi/Dal servers reserved already, with only a couple Denvers left if you're lucky. Switching the VA/GA/NY servers to Chi/Dal wouldn't make them less popular (and at least for tf2 would be much more popular). It'd probably also alleviate a lot of the ping complaints, since Chicago and Dallas are largely the locations the community has settled on and is used to their pings.
Also improved stats please, this isn't 2010 anymore

Client is actually pretty organized. If you just set it to tf2 only, it kind of reminds me of the tf2 server browser that I know a lot of people use.
In addition, the way this is set up right now is a lot better than cevo imo where client is a means to have players ready up or check in and nothing else. I enjoy having that ability to join the server instantly without going to match comms or restarting my client. And ugc doesn't even have a client.
Also, someone mentioned this from my team that ESEA should have a download link to custom maps on their site each season to make it easily accessible without the hassle of actually searching for it even though it's not that hard in the first place.

kuzashooter, we've been running out of selectable servers on actual match nights since season 5.
TBH, this is very true. I submitted a ticket every single season, and I would always get "we will add servers when it is needed" response. I've created threads on ESEA, TF.TV, natf2, hell even gotfrag. A lot of the server locations make zero sense too.
Edit- It's partly all due to having a monopoly on the gaming scene. Without competition, they can say stagnant forever without even caring about what people really want. Look at TWC/Comcast in the US, they have been using a backbone that is 20 years old. Try complaining, they really don't give a shit since you have no where else to go.

every time my teammate connects to the server, it kicks him about 30 seconds after hes in and it says he must be running esea client. this isnt the first time ive seen this issue arise, however ive never had it myself so i dont know how to fix it. anyone whos experienced this, could you give us some suggestions on how to fix it?

Make sure he's loading TF2 from the client, not already having it running and then opening the client. Big difference.
Exit TF2 > Open client > Join server from client > no issues ever. This is the alt-tab generation and people make things so difficult.

Unless something changed since last season, the client won't open if you already have TF2 running.

Hey Shooter,
I joined ESEA in S9. The TF2 post match stats have not changed since my first match. Numerous times we have heard the "we are looking into it". cyzers post on the previous page lays it out what we would like to see for the most part. I think a lot of people would very much like this change to something more resembling the sizzling stats. I would really hope next season (if there is one) that augmented stats would be a high priority.
Client has been kept up to date, thanks. Outside of some first week issues where people couldn't connect.
More dallas/chi servers seems to be an issue every season and continues to be this one. If only you guys added like 4, you could point to it and say hey look we added Dallas 180 and 181 and Chitown 400 and 401, something simple as that would show the community hey look its "less talk and more action".
Overall though I think the season has been going pretty well, and the competition been very good.

pre-season panic "things are fixed"
half-season "things should be fixed"
half-season "things should be fixed"
Also, I just want to point out, when I say to "Open a ticket", it's not because I don't "care" about the problem, and send you somewhere else. It's simply because it's the best way to log the problem, and get the proper people (specialists) to help you out, and fix the problem for good. It keeps a track of the issue, and it's not closed until fixed/addressed (client problems, server lags, etc.).
Please, don't take this the wrong way, if you already have one open, let me know the ticket #, and I'll see what I can do :)
