Population density is more than likely a factor than whatever that's getting at.

liberals always tryin to take my gun rights away while simultaneously lobbying for the rights of criminals. Sorry, not going to risk my safety for some yuppies who are afraid of firearms. gun control means using both hands in my land.

The USA, the only place where killing yourself means taking atleast 5 people with you because a gun is laying there in your daddies night stand anyway.

All anime should be banned. Those who are found in possession of anime should be sent to the stocks.

The thing I take away from this is that people need to be more proactive when dealing with the people in their lives. As a culture it's as if social skills simply don't exist. His parents *had* to know something was wrong, his roommates, whom he stabbed to death, *had* to know something wasn't right, and yet, all the further anything seemed to go was calling the police to "check" on him - when seriously - as a parent, if I felt the need to call the police to "check" on my child, I'd be coming with and said child would be leaving with me whether they liked it or not. Granted, that may not have prevented anything, and he was seeing a therapist, but clearly more could have been done.

As for the gun debate, I myself own several guns (I have a small little collection). The guns themselves are locked in a safe, and the bullets are locked in a separate safe that's hidden in a place where nobody would ever find them. The keys to said safe are on my person at all time (I have a kid right). Guns ought to be a lot harder to obtain. This guy was prescribed anti-psychotics, and yet, he waltzed down to the shop, and picked himself up 3 handguns over a relatively short period of time. If you made the process by which you obtained a gun of any type much more difficult - on par with what it takes to get an HR (historical/collection) license or a concealed carry permit you'd prevent plenty of gun-crime because anybody who has a sudden motivation to rampage wouldn't sit through 48+ hours (essentially 48 weeks) of gun-safety training and written tests, etc, nor the costs of such classes - or at least you'd give the people around them more time to actually do something about their actually crazy roommate/son.

People have the free will do do what they want, even something as barbaric as shooting up innocent people.

Gun Laws won't change that.

Improving Mental Health Care won't change that.

The chance of being caught in a situation like this is probably higher than winning the lottery, just hope you aren't at the wrong place at the wrong time. End of story.

#119 The only thing his parents really could have done was get him forcibly put into a mental institution, but seeing as he had no history of violence or self harm, it's kinda hard to force someone in there. Realize he was probably getting mental counseling for years funded by his parents and even the therapist also reported him. A lot of people knew what was wrong but would have to walk a really grey line to actually stop him before it happened.

Also, you seem to be forgetting he's an adult. His parents can't immediate force shit on him, let alone him to come along. You're way oversimplifying the problem, as this was a chronic problem that normally doesn't lead to a mass murder and they were trying to get him help. I mean maybe you could blame his parents for parenting him the way he did, but I don't think many people could honestly handle the situation they had with their son any better. They seemed to have put a good amount of effort into helping him but it didn't work.

Granted this is all assumption, but there was history and they were apparently driving to SB once they saw his last video. I don't think you can blankly say that they should have been more proactive without being ignoring his privacy (in which case, you might want a more police state ie more NSA/wiretapping/etc).

Saw on the "news" today that they had to mention that he played the "violent, war game" World of Warcraft and watched the gory show Game of Thrones.

Sigh.

It's just really frustrating seeing media STILL trying to place blame on "violent" video games.

I mean, WoW is rated T.

Also, they said "He is now getting the attention he believed he was entitled to.."

...as you devote an entire fucking segment to him.

I don't even know the victims' names. I wanna know their story. What are the families going through and how is the community coming together to help them? Let's hear about something positive for once.

Thankfully I don't pay for the cable here, I don't plan on getting it once I'm living on my own.
It's literally 95% garbage.

It's easier to place blame on something simple like gun control or video games because otherwise we'd have to admit we don't know why people do shit and that's scary

but banning video games would be funny as shit so maybe they should do that

His parents did try to get him help, they even called the cops on him and the guy was visited by 7 cops. If they would have searched the apartment they would have found his guns, ammo, and whiny ramblings.

why can't we just have a free forum where anything goes and the only thing that gets banned would be private information like name, address or phone-number.
