One thing I will say is that iOS has better games and music creation apps than Android. That's about it.

If you want a cool case for a phone the Dot View Case (for the HTC One M8) is a really useful (and good looking!) one.

Features highlighted here.

that is dope i have a flip cover case for my phablet but thats much more impressive

Buy your lg nexus 5 off google THEN get a plan and deal the shit out of it.. And if youre not happy then get another plan.. its much easier when you own your phone instead of paying 0 initial cost for the cellphone with a plan

I can also vouch for Nexus 5 master race. It's still got a couple problems (that rarely if ever affect me), like signals that occasionally don't come back when you lose them (until you reboot), but it's pretty sweet overall. Samsung designs are just tacky (although frankly that doesn't really matter that much).

Plus you can't argue with this sweet case

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Slim-Armor-Case-Nexus/dp/B00EV8Y4QI/

Phones in general are very useful when you're out and about, but for serious computing the screen size is still a factor anyway. Idk about tablets as I've never had one, but I imagine they're a good middle ground between keyboard + mouse and portability.

Sprint is anticompetitive, AT&T has other issues that may or may not affect you, like privacy.

watched the keynote and my iphone 4 isn't supported anymore and i don't plan on spending 800€ on a new phone. I like the concept of the nexus 5 but heard google will quit that product line, are there any alternatives? the normal htc one is ≈ 400€ atm, is that worth it compared to a nexus 5?

I'd rather have the Nexus. You're gonna get the best android experience with it. It's also going to get more updates/support from google than HTC will do for the One.

GetawhaleI had been planning to buy the Samsung Galaxy S5, but after reading reviews that say it's NOT blazing fast hardware-wise, I'm a little worried..

As someone who owns a galaxy s4, unless you plan on rooting the phone, stay away from samsung; touchwiz SUCKS. Overall, samsung's software is pretty awful; even their dialer sucks. You could always get the new HTC phone; better speakers, sd card slot (only reason I got an s4; I needed space for my music, and the HTC one at the time didn't have an sd card slot), and from what I've seen, much better software. I don't know much about it but it can't be worse than touchwiz.

Nah, samsung's software just blows in comparison to what's on other phones. It's a good phone if you root and install a custom rom. Otherwise, it's pretty abysmal.

That's why I'm saying he should just get an HTC phone so he doesn't have to bother with any of that. The issue is that samsung's software is just inherently bad and most of it is just bloatware. There's risk involved with everything. That risk just happens to drop significantly when you know what you're doing and why.

That OnePlus One looks pretty sick. Its interesting how they are doing the invite/no-distributor purchasing.

If you just want a phone that has the best official selection of modern apps* and works fine and don't care about how closed the platform is, I'd get an iPhone. The 5C (what I currently have) is probably the best option right now, or a 5 if you can get one.

If you want a phone that has a much more open platform that has fewer official apps*, but many more third-party ones, and you like lots of customization, go with Android. The Nexus 5 seems pretty good, and a couple of my friends have S5s and love them. It seems like the S5 might not be the best option looking at this thread, so also consider the new HTC One.

* I'm just making an assumption here, this may or may not be true. If it's not true, please correct me.

Edit: When my contract expires, I think I'm going to switch to Android. My 5C should last a while, even when they stop making updates for it, so I should be good for any games I want that are only on the App Store.

Lady Bird Johnson was advocated civil rights and her influence upon LBJ was a big reason why the civil rights bill of 1964 was passed. First Lady Bird was a great model for young women of the 60's especially after they no longer had Jackie Kennedy in the public eye

Working in the phone industry has caused me to never ever want an iPhone. The amount of issues that I see on the daily with those phones is stressful. I couldn't imagine dealing with them myself.

So I'm gunna bump this instead of making a new one.

I bought an iphone 4s a couple years ago for 200 bucks with a $60 monthly plan and realized how much a terrible waste of money cell phones are. I'm looking for a phone that is:

    $100-$200 on it's own
    calling
    texting
    3G data
    good battery life
So I'm gunna bump this instead of making a new one.

I'm going to get a new phone soon and when I do, it'll be an unlocked android phone on an prepaid carrier. I don't know if Canada has any decent prepaid carriers, but it's definitely worth looking into.

I have a Nexus 5 ordered from the Play Store, which I'm using with Telus prepaid. Prepaid is kind of a joke but I don't spend much and I'm not stuck in a contract so I guess it's okay. Unlimited texting costs me $15 a month. If I got data it's like $10 = 10MB aka a complete rip off.

In terms of plans, the only thing not a complete ripoff in Canada is this one from Wind
http://www.windmobile.ca/plans-and-devices/plans/mobile-plan-details/phone-monthly-plan-3
However, some people have problems with Winds coverage outside of cities, and I've also heard some things about an unstable future for the company so idk look into it

I'm also open to suggestions if someone can find me a cheap way to get data + texting (calling isn't important).

Edit: This information is for Ontario btw, I don't think Wind exists elsewhere.

If you really want something well priced I'd say get a Moto G, however it is pushing more to the smart phone area so the battery life isn't the best, having said that I don't think many phones in general have good battery life these days with moderate usage.

Another good shout is the Moto E and some of the Huawei phones are pretty decent as well.

There are some better options out there that are good (LG G2, S4) which would be about a year old or so now, however I do believe that you guys in NA get fucked in the asshole when it comes to phones on contract.

Here I would pay nothing up front for the phone but pay like £42-£52 p/m for 2 years. I think in NA you gotta pay like £100+ for the phone?

Anyway, Moto G or E.

bought this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/ZTE-Open-powered-by-Firefox-OS-3G-unlocked-smartphone-orange-eBay-exclusive-/281165818989

Firefox OS is probably shit, but it's cheap as hell and microSD card slot is big plus.

Even the Moto G in Canada is priced for $180-$240 plus shipping so even that was kinda over my price range.

edit: whoops i bought a ZTE open, actually just ordered the ZTE Open C. Gunna have to return the other one :/
