I am in the market for an SSD (128gb probably, maybe 256gb) to store my OS on as well as a couple of games, TF2 being one of them. However, apparently my Team Fortress 2 folder is 98+ gbs. Is this normal? How can I still benefit from the SSD without storing the whole game on it? I know that 9 gb of the folder is from demos so I guess I can just store them elsewhere.

Remove your demos, like seriously, if you have thousands of demos that is very likely it, either that or something that you recorded is still in there
That is definitely not normal, you might just have a ton of custom stuff

I had way more demos before that I moved to a different file location. Now I only have around 9 gb of demos still in my team fortress 2 folder, but I assume 90 gb still is not normal.

Oh shit I just found a folder that I was using to store movie files. It's around 75 gbs.
Somewhat fresh install is around 14GB.
Check tf/download, could be maps or custom stuff from pub servers
e: or 75GB of TGAs rofl

Custom maps get pretty bad if you do tons of jump/surf servers and play dozens of maps for that.

demos, maps, custom files take up a lot of room
but yeah a folder full of .tgas will do that too lol

I would be shocked if someone actually managed to fill 75GB with things like mods maps and demo's.
Your SSD will fill up if you don't move your PREC stuff to your other drive every now and then.
Just set up a quick batch file to move your demos to another drive and schedule it to run once a day/week/on startup with windows scheduler.

If the little window popping up annoys you you can use a vbs script to run it silently.

Was thinking of just having the file directory to save demos changed to a folder on my hdd. Don't know if that works

are you using prec to record a demo to a directory?
Change that directory to a symbolic link pointing to a different disk.
you'll be using
In command line...
mklink /d [Where the symbolic link is going to be placed] [where directory actually is]
You could do the same for map files.

I did what sizzling did and it's really nice.
If you want to watch a demo you'd have to move it in but at least you aren't writing for all 1000 of those demos.

when you get your SSD think about using Lawena to write to a different drive to lengthen the lifespan of your drive
also check console.log, can grow to be very big.
you can simply delete it.
and i would not start scheduling cleanups, but just do it manually from time to time.
