When I open games in Steam by default they are in different resolutions than what I have my desktop set to (1920x1080). Because of this conflict the screen just turns black or even turns my monitor off. Some games I managed to get working by having to modify the default resolution it launches the games in within the system files but it is a massive pain in the arse.
How can I get all games to launch by default to the resolution I have my desktop set to?

It should just launch in whatever resolution the game is set to be in regardless of your native resolution - have you picked at some setting on your gfx card to force the program to launch in a resolution it can't support?

Hi Marxist, thanks for the reply.
I didn't change anything myself, some games open fine in the correct resolution or in a 16:9 resolution but a lot have the error.
I fixed the error when it occurred in 'Bioshock: infinite' by doing the following:

I also solved it in 'The Wolf Among Us' by pressing alt+enter to go into windowed mode and then change the resolution of the game when it was in windowed mode.
Unfortunately most games won't go into windowed mode and it's a massive pain in the arse to find all the stuff I need to edit in the system files.
EDIT: My GFX is Radeon HD6800 and Windows 7 64 bit.
