You need to restart TF2 completely (exit from the main menu) after setting cl_loadondemand_default 0, it must be set when the app starts up. Did you do so? (Please let me know!)

"cl_loadondemand_default 1" gave me stuttering issues which are mostly fixed by setting it to 0 via my autoexec.cfg (hard to tell on my not so great rig)

Ecstatic that the TF2 team has someone perusing the forums for feedback. Here's to hoping invisible players get fixed and maybe a client cvar to disable hats falling on the ground. I keep trying to pick them up for ammo. :-/

I am. And it seems to be when someone joins/spawns (can't tell which). When I am playing DM the moment someone joins a team my game stutters

I've got the same issue regardless of what server I'm on. whenever someone joins, my game hangs for half a second

Still get pretty steady stuttering/freezes even with this new cl_loadondemand_default 0 command.

I've tried fiddling with vysnc, fps_max cap, mat queue modes, reinstalling drivers, cleaning out fans.

Really annoying when every second is precious during 6's play.

Nvidia 670 GTX
i5 3570K 3.4 Ghz
16 GB DDR3 RAM

TF2 is installed on a regular 2 TB HDD.

Getting these as well. They are more prevalent in pubs, but happen everywhere regardless.

cl_loadondemand 0 nor 1 have helped. I've tried putting both of them into my autoexec and restarting my game, my computer, and even tried turning them on and off in game. Nothing has helped.

That said i've been experiencing these issues as well. I'll be trying cl_loadondemand_default 0 in my autoexec and seeing if that helps. I play tf2 on a 7200 rpm HDD.

Could someone (or ideally several someones) do me a favor and try the following test?

In your autoexec.cfg, find mat_queue_mode and modify it to be -1, and set cl_loadondemand_default to be 1. Then launch tf2 and see if you still get stuttering?

That is, in autoexec.cfg:

and got no stutter

tried out the settings you said I should try and no stutter either!

I tried running with

mat_queue_mode -1
cl_loadondemand_default 1

as well as

cl_loadondemand_default 0
mat_queue_mode 2

And both were lagging for me as well. I'm pretty sure its just my crappy internet, but it happened about the same time that everybody else starting having problems.

wish to bump this thread since last week i started to get like stutters every 5 minutes and freeze once every beginning of a match when its mp_tournament
this got significantly worse since the freeze/stutters started aprox 1month ago

Saw this got bumped so I decided to hop on.

For the last ~3 weeks (ever since the update caused this), for every night, the server (no matter which) would stutter for a short second or so everytime someone switches class.

This would have happened to everyone on the server, this only occurred on match servers.
Not sure if this is server plugin-side or what (sourcemod/TFTrue) would cause this.

Thought it was working...Turns out it wasn't. Tried all the combinations of settings from above

also my friend mentioned he stutters when someone joined during hl match.
seems the stutters/freeze occur randomely

im not sure if this is relevent to this issue but i noticed since the update from last week i start to get alot more screen tearing on tf2. this is the first time i get ALOT of screen tearing since i started playing tf2 comp. 2 years

im not sure why but playing cs go doesnt give me ANY screen tearing at all no matter what server i use.
while tf2 gives me 14 screen tearing during fast movement when i used to get 1-2 before the update

So is there still no fix for this? I'd really like to get a nonstuttering game before gxl...I suppose it's too late

just dropping by to say that i'm also experiencing these short freezes. i've tried mat_que_mode 2 with cl_loadondemand_default 0, mat_que_mode -1 with cl_loadondemand_default 1 and mat_que_mode -1 with cl_loadondemand_default 0.

I'm getting the stuttering as well... maybe every 30 seconds or so. Sometimes it's less, which is odd. It's very jarring, as not only does the fps stutter, but the game sound cuts for a split second as well.

On the sound note, every once in awhile... maybe one out of ten startups, the sound in the game is all static and weird. If I restart tf2 it generally goes away, so it's not a huge issue. But it doesn't bode well, right? Any ideas anyone?
