GeForce GTX 970 oced
i7-3770 CPU @ 4.2HZ oc
16GB RAM
1920,1080 144hz
in the demo benchmark with lowest settings and fps config i only get 183 fps while people with worse gpus get 200+ i cant even hold 200 fps constant in 6s fights it drops down to about 140 in 6v6 fights is this normal fps for this good equipment? it seems awful to me i was hoping to get 300 fps constant with this in fights

GPU won't affect your frame rate in tf2 unless it's so shit that it bottlenecks your CPU, also it's way harder to get bang for your buck in tf2 in that even a top of the line gaming computer probably couldn't hold 200 fps constantly in a crowded pub while the same computer could put out 600+ fps consistently in cs:go.
That said you're not really getting the performance you should be, check there's nothing weird going on in nvidia settings and make sure cl_threaded_bone_setup is set to 1?

i have my nvidia settings set to performance and have all the settings at the lowest, i just recently switched from chris max frames to an updated config from here which gave me a 30 fps boost and it has cl_threaded_bone_setup enabled

if you're comparing your system to say mine I have high CPU OC
CPU: i5-4670k @ 4.4GHz (Haswells do better at single thread by about 5% than Ivy Bridge)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87-HD3
RAM: 16GB DDR3 Corsair Vengence @1600MHz
GPU: HIS 6850 1GB
Run in DX 8.1 or "-dxlevel 81"
Try out "No Hats Mod"
Achieve better FPS

140 fps= stuttering on a 144hz monitor.
OP, I just play in 720p. I get 150+ on midfights while streaming on my Phenom II cpu. You don't even notice after a little while. Is this a problem only with TF2 or do other programs mess up?

Lower your resolution.
Try dxlevel 81,85,91,95,98. See which one performs the best.

and "kevinispwn" if u think having 4 frames less than your refresh rate is going to cause "stuttering" u need to sit down for a minute and take a think on that

I'm so happy I don't have fps issues, and I'm reminded of it every time I see one of these threads.
And another thing - everybody always says how CPU intensive this game is, but every single time I play my graphics card temp shoots up to like 50 and my cpu stays at like 30. Is it just because I play with max quality and have triple buffering gsync and other graphics card crap going on?

At least have the decency to argue your point instead of just insulting him.
There is mathematically a stutter in running 140 fps content on 144hz with vsync, but i don't think any of us here could notice it because it lasts 0.0069 seconds. Without vsync, it's not really an issue at all.
I'm surprised that you can notice a dip to 140 fps honestly. My FPS dips just as low, but it doesn't bother me.

I can tell when my fps hits 180 or lower... Mouse response just isn't the same.

lowering my res doesn't change my fps at all, i already had high performance on and i use the hatless mod dxlevel 81 gives me the most fps

I suddenly saw that your card was overclocked, was that factory done or did you do it yourself? Is there some sort of setting you goofed up?
I barely get 100 fps anymore talk less on mid fights. got no problems. appreciate that you can get over 120 constant. Like why are you even complaining like nobody cares

i just used msi afterburner and changed gpu clock 1344 mhz to 1480 mhz and memory from 1753 to 1800

I'm not complaining i just want to know why some people get higher fps with worse cpu and gpus.

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted, if I had spent the money on those (pretty damn good) parts, and they turned out to perform poorly I would be pissed as well. For reference, I have a pretty meh build (AMD FX-6300 stock clock, GeForce 660 stock clock), but get a constant 300+fps with Chris' maxframes. Does your autoexec have anything that might be execing a different graphics config?
wtf? i changed my crosshair and that gave 15-20fps boost in my benchmark wtf

actually pretty interesting, was it a hud crosshair or an in game one? and what did it change from/to

After reading this I stopped using my animated hud crosshair and my game feels so much smoother.
