Mouse problem

If i flick with my mouse or move it too fast, it basically doesn't pick up the movement. It's pretty annoying, since it makes rocketjumping and some other stuff in Tf2 impossible.
I'm using a Zowie FK but i doubt it's the problem since its fairly new (5 months old). I already tried a different mouse (a random discounter mouse to be exact) and i had the same problem.
Also tried using a different usb port, didn't help.
help pls :x

Have you tried updating mouse drivers and resetting the windows mouse settings?

I never changed anything in the windows mouse settings and as for the mouse driver it says that there are no driverupdates available.

runs at 1000hz
I will just ask a mate of mine if he can borrow me his g400, testing with a discountermouse isn't that accurate i guess.

I remember using a goliathus with an fk and it was perfectly fine. Try to avoid flicking really fast with the fk, sometimes you can hit the malfunction speed really fast and you'll not aim as correctly.

Had this issue with the zowie ec1 evo. It was an issue with the how fast the sensor could track. Ended up buying a new mouse.

I had the same problem with my FK. It turned out to be caused by some clouding on the plastic covering the sensor. I cleaned it off and it worked good as new.

TL;DR - 500Hz and 2300 CPI gives the highest possible malfunction speed on the 2014 FK.

The MCU in the 2014 edition FK has clearly defined count caps at different hz/cpi combinations. 500Hz/2300CPI maxes out at 512 counts per polling period (2ms) equalling 2.82m/s assuming 2300cpi is the real cpi (its generally higher in practice on these mice). 1000Hz/2300CPI maxes out at 128 counts per polling period (1ms) equalling 1.41m/s (once again assuming 2300cpi). The other CPI steps exhibit a similar behaviour, but with even lower max speeds. The original FK did not have this problem at 1000Hz, and could hit over 350 counts per polling period.

You should be able to replicate these results

This happens to all the mice in my house except one, and that's the ten year old microsoft one that randomly scrolls every few seconds
needless to say, i need to buy a new mouse, but many mice do fail pretty quickly in my experience if you flick them around a lot. It is probably partially to do with all mine being cheap, but there are four mice now that I've tried for tf2 and had to ditch because they either didn't work for flicks as soon as i tried to use them or stopped working after a few months. Oddly, they all work perfectly fine for normal desktop applications, it's just fast movement that stuffs them up.

blow hard into the lens, I have the same problem when there's dust trapped in there

also wipe it with a dustcloth etc and see if it helps

edit: off topic but povo what are the "best" settings in terms of hz/DPI for the 2013 fk because 2300 DPI and half sens feels distinctly different to 1150 and normal and idk why

thank you to everyone who posted. i kinda fixed it by cleaning up the lens and also changing my mouse to 500 hz and 2300 cpi. the problem still appears, but only if i overdo my flicks. thanks again for everyone that posted :).

I'm having similar problems with my EC1 eVo CL, but don't remember it happening up until recently. I've got a new mousepad on it's way (this XTrac Ripper is 3-4 years old, never washed) so that will take out one variable. Would you suggest I try the same fixes you've suggested here if the new mousepad doesn't fix it? I don't know if the sensors are the same or how to clean the sensor cover, any help would be awesome.

1000Hz was better than 500Hz on my 2013 FK. The 500Hz setting would have a 1ms period every 8 counts or so.

I didn't do any extensive testing on the different CPI/Hz combinations and max speeds, and currently my 2013 internals are without a shell, because i put my FK1 internals in my FK13 shell, so I can't do anything with it at the moment. I do have an older Zowie AM-GS which probably has the same internals as the original FK (eg: red led, single cutout in bottom shell for sensor), so maybe I could test on that.

oktober, its a problem with the custom lens in the original and 2014 fk (but not the fk1).
theres a mod that will 100% fix it. (essentially open the mouse, take out the lens which is molded in two pieces, separate the small piece with a screwdriver, put the big piece back/reassemble the mouse)

kamo, I would assume this applies to the ec1 eVo CL as well but I haven't looked at it, I can open one and check if you want. oh and the darker the pad the better tracking you'll have but it's not really a fix

pvh, just fyi its worth trying hidusbf over zowies hz changer, it can potentially fix the smoothness problem. but I guess your mouse is in pieces at this point anyway

I received my new mousepad and everything is back to normal (as far as I can tell). I haven't done any investigating into specific tracking speed thresholds, but will do so if the problem pops back up.
