Since the word is the abbreviated pronunciation of "animation" in Japanese, where this term references all animation, anime can be considered a genre, because Animation itself is a genre, even though the story of the movie can be about anything.

I have done my time with western women, but considering my brilliant experiences with asian women it will suffice to say I will not be going back.
