i have come to the conclusion that demo doesn't do as much damage as he used to because he got nerfed.

Knuckles_Saltysally1MoyI don't understand what's so bad about the nerf. I still do around the same amount of damage and, ultimately, the demo is still strong. Demos can still completely trap/spam off huge areas of the map, and stickies aren't that hard to do damage with if you just try to refine your aim with the projectiles.thats cuz you did 200 dpm before the update moron
It's a good way to cater to the pub community whiners about stickies, as well as catering to the comp players by requiring better aim.
Anyway, even if the nerf makes the game more pocket-centric, what's wrong with that? Might as well change the game's meta so that we get a little variety every once and a while.

bitch boi demo reporting 4 duty. Shoot the fuckin ground now dont charge ur sticks it fucking blows aim below the damn person now and look at the floor and now you gotta single out people instead of multiple air stick damage so much more focus but now scouts rape up the butt and i cant really do shit cuz this radius is fucking garbage and now my pocket does all the dirty work i just get to spam and boring shit only really good for holding chokes and even last pushes suck but whatever just heal the damn pocket and scouts hopefully i can push without getting bombed and raped or plus forwarded by a scout really you cant do shit unless this doesnt happen every push
I feel like the talk about the demo nerf being bad is unnecessary in the grand scheme since the demo can still get full radius if the sticky lands on the surface and the demo is still good at holding chokes. Therefore he still had a large influence on the game even if he doesn't top damage.

this is what i get with esea links
you have the location set to europe on the left sidebar, there are no eu tf2 stats...

Essentially the only good post in this thread.
As a side note i personally don't mind the nerf but it definitely made the already incredibly strong scouts even stronger in addition to soldiers since you can't nearly as easily erode the soldiers buffs for mid bombs due to a lack of radius. I think its still probably the best nerf we can hope to get out of valve that is at all fair to the balance.
In essence demo does not nearly have the impact it used to but is still a very important class, only much more easily killed, allowing me to now complain about how easy all other classes are which is my only true goal in this game.

maybe instead of complaining about scout players being strong people should just get better and match the effort they put in to be good?

yeah if u put any time into this game like the scouts you would be fine mustard

if i matched the effort it takes to get into IM as scout i would still be in steel
you dont have to be good to get into any div as any class
i mean i proved that when i played invite in s14 and i was garbage

All I'm seeing from these stats is that demo still does lots of damage.
Sorry that you can't have one class carry your entire team anymore.

Red_Why don't we adapt the playstyle like any other game? It happens in dota every 3 months where the meta changes. Albiet a very different game I think the concept is the same
i would agree with this if tf2 had a solid balancing team, they dont listen to competitive players nearly as much as icefrog listens to competitive dota players.

That sort of comparison is incorrect at best. TF2 has 9 classes, that will never change. However, DotA has 109 heroes and that number will continue to go up. The meta in dota changes because once they have that many heroes, people are able to exploit things that are imba and it's nearly impossible to balance a game like DotA. Maybe if we no longer has class limits, something like a passive DH + Buff Banner soldier would be a viable demoman alternative. Until then, it's almost impossible to just "adapt" to this change because it's completely changing the idea of the class itself.

This season is my first season of esea and my first full season of demo period. I've noticed in scrims that I haven't been putting up as much damage as I was used to when ringing/pugging/switching roles in my silver team. At first I had simply chalked it up to playing against better players(which is still part of the reason) so I'm almost relieved I guess to see that the nerf is having this much of an impact on other players as well.
In dota, competitive players play dota, and icefrog releases and balances heroes for dota.
In Tf2, competitive players play 6s, and valve releases and balances weapons for TF2.

Just to clear up the sticky arm time confusion, someone I know tested it out and basically after 0.7 seconds the sticky arms and you can detonate it but there is always a ~0.135 second delay between you hitting right click and the sticks actually blowing up. So the shortest time between shooting a sticky and it exploding is ~0.835 but saying that it has an armtime of 0.7 is technically correct, if a little misleading.
for the record i've roamed in half our matches so far.
also holy shit so demos cant fucking 360 tomahawk dunk on a team trying to push by just having them on their screen. it's not a big deal.
euros on the other hand....nerf should be interesting.

Wait for season 20, the euros will show you kids how to demoman :D
Jokes aside I think the nerf is much less of a hinderence on the euro demo playstyle (which in my opinion is the more fun one)
Inb4 exon gets the most damage this season.

new update: scout now has 5 bullets loaded at a time
scout mains: scout is literally unplayable thanks for nothing valve

sticky traps on your feet and shoot pipes works best for this update
I don't want to blindly dismiss what you're trying to accomplish here, but you just spent nearly 7000 characters (didn't count URLs) to say a simple sentence: Demo has been made to deal less damage per sticky when firing them in one way and resultingly, demos are dealing less overall damage.
It seems like a fairly straightforward result given the change that was made.
As far as what it's done to the game... has it really affected much? Demos now do less overall damage and are forced to change up their style of play in order to remain most effective. Does it suck for demos? Perhaps. Is it a buff to soldiers and scouts alike? Absolutely. Does it really hurt the game? No.
Stickies have a much lower radius of damage when in the air. This means that going forward, demos will have to work harder to fire stickies in a way that they're closer to the enemies when detonating them in the air. Again, it sucks for the demo but doesn't really affect the game since both teams are equally affected. Pipe aim becomes more critical. Sticky traps and area denial become more critical.
As a fellow washed-up demo main and as a player who is unwilling to dedicate the time required to properly adapt to the change, I understand it's kind of annoying to have your class manipulated so massively, but let's face reality: after 7 years of existence, this game is pretty stale. Major changes like this force you to either stay on your toes or fall behind as other people adapt. Is it really bad? I'm willing to say, 'not really'.

Except that it does affect the metagame a lot and makes the game feel so much more passive, if you don't have a demo doing as much damage as before, the other classes are gonna take more time on cleanup kills, hence longer and more drawn out fights/pushes, also teamfights are a joke because your job is basically to put stickies on the ground and wait for the enemy to pass over.
Like scouts ever needed a buff. There is literally no reason to play demo because you have very little impact compared to what you had before. It has become a extremely boring class.
The balance would be fine if valve regularly tweaked the game across the board according to feedback, but they pretty much dont care, they just did this because of the SPUF pubbers intense crying. So instead they fucked over the class everyone was whining about and now we have to deal with it.
