So I've been getting a crazy amount of random adds on steam recently from accounts that have private profiles. I figure this comes from putting something up on outpost but its literally like 4 accounts a day adding me and I just keep blocking them. I've had a couple of these in the past when putting stuff on outpost, but never this many. Is anyone else having this happen?
Same here, probably those are just people that noticed you have cool TF2 items and they want them, so they add you and when you accept the friend invite he'll sent you a phishy link, that's what happening to me when I accept the adds
I get like six a day and I haven't used a trading site in nearly two months.
Ah alright, I wasn't sure if it was just me. I never remember getting that many in the past.
all these people keep adding me cuz their bros cant trade with me and they mess up the steam link they send me and when i fix it the link doesnt work how am i gonna trade with their bros?
i still accept the phishers/bots so i can make sure and report them, there can't be that many people that do this and hopefully they get caught eventually
these are the random adds i hate:
"Hi can i join your UGC? I have 1,000 strange knife kills I'm ready for the next level"
cuz no matter what i say, people get upset. stuff like "well i guess I'll go 'get experience' then. thanks for nothing" and instant remove. i feel like I'm crushing people's dreams...
at least scammers are professional about it when you say no thanks
edit: comanglia I'm so sorry that sounds awful. random people expecting technical help is extremely frustrating because things like "unzip the file" that seem simple turn into teaching them how to use 7-zip but then they download some "download manager" instead which is probably a virus and ask you how to use this software you've never heard of and give up and invite you to 32 man pubs every single day

Yeah, I get quite a few due to having all my high priced shit on outpost. I also get a lot about huds. I just deny everyone I don't even want friends anymore.
I just ignore any level 0 account and most private accounts. That seems to filter out most.
i get like 10 a day at least.

Comanglianah most of the time it's
"Since I got your CFG my TF2 crashes, can you help me fix it?"
usually they didn't read the "Quad-Core or better only" part
or it's
"Can you tell me what [inserttf2commandhere] does" / "What command does XYZ"
very rarely it's because they accidentally downloaded the wrong thing. I also don't typically get invited randomly to pubs by these people if they stay on my friendslist.
I'm not terribly bothered by it though, I work at an ISP as a helpdesk tier 2 and get far more annoying bs from that than almost anything a random steam add about my CFG could throw at me.
btw i told someone to download your config and linked your thread, and they ended up downloading the m0re's config link because reading is hard and it's the first link. maybe you should put your link at the top of the post?
either way, your attitude about it is pretty good

I get a couple every day and I always assume it's someone who wants to talk to me about my map or w/e.
99% of the time it's people trying to get me to click false steam URLs to lose all my shit.
Assholes.

Since I'm not really that active in any communities, and I dont really trade, I pretty much block private profiles on site unless I recognize them from something.
why would u program ur bot to have the same name for every account?
generally best idea is to private your profile/inventory

I don't even think it's based on the value of stuff you own. My likely most expensive item in TF2 is a Strange Killstreak Rocket Launcher. And my most expensive for CS:GO is a Minimal Wear Redline Awp, so I doubt it's value based, because I get adds like this atleast 4 times a day, at most 12.

I think the amount of phishers you get may be based on the value of your backpack. back when my backpack was worth at least $10k, I would wake up to find at least a minimum of 20 phisher adds, and they would continue to add me throughout the day. now that my inventory is nowhere near what it used to be, I find that the times I do get phisher adds is when I bump trades either on csgolounge or tf2outpost.

Why doesn't valve implement a minimum account time limit/game ownership/2-factor authentication in order to add friends? Seems like that would make this problem disappear overnight.
I keep them on my friends list because I aspire to one day have 420 friends on steam.
you're a pretty big caster imo
i don't think it's that odd for people to shoot you random friend requests daily
i add pretty much everyone that adds me, but i add a ?????? as their nickname (i ended up going through my entire steam friends list and nicknaming every single person due to aliases), which i then tag them into an IDK group
whenever i need friends list space i just mass remove them, but i think out of like 20 adds, i maybe get 3 phishers and 2 completely insane people
