I picked up a real dumb habit from my quake days: using finger tips to control mouse. I'm pretty sure it's the main culprit behind the past 2 years of wrist pain that I've ignored. Basically thinking of going to palm grip and sticking to it even if I suck.

Wondering if any of you had wrist issues and if you fixed it god bless

You should take a break from video games, at least for a couple weeks. Then try coming back and using a palm grip. If you're still feeling pain then you should see a doctor asap.

Your best bet is to just take a break from holding a mouse as much as you can until the pain is pretty much gone whilst resting and only crops up when you have to use your wrist. Then try and switch grips. If you don't take a break to see what your wrist is like whilst not using your mouse, it will continue the stress you're already putting on it as well as you won't be able to tell if its an improvement or not.

Anyways I use palm grip and it doesn't help with my rsi so I wouldn't expect it to change anything. Just play games in moderation and don't play for too long in one session so you can rest your wrist.

hit the gym, do wrist rolls.

i tell everyone to go to the gym in every life/mental/physical problem thread but really wrist rolls with a 5 lb weight for like 20reps per set for like 5 minutes a day will fix you. ive had this happen numerous times.

I regularly take month+breaks just cause of school

Had it, ignored it for a while but then an accident fucked up my left hand, couldn't move the thumb for a month because of that, so I had to do everything that required moving the thumb with my right hand and that was a bit too much. Used a bandage to fix thumb and wrist while playing and changed to low sens so I only had to move my arm and couldn't move wrist or thumb on accident. As soon as my left hand was fine I went back to business as usual, ignored the pain because I was used to it by then. A few days later my thumb locked up, wrist and other fingers weren't much better. Didn't touch a pc for a week. Used the mouse with my left hand for a month. Kept playing on low sens for almost a year.

tl;dr
Ignoring the pain won't help. Stop doing whatever movement causes pain. If it still hurts after a break either the break wasn't long enough or you should stop doing that movement completely. Use a bandage to prevent involuntary movement during the breaks.

idk about costs in the us but seeing a physical therapist is ideal. like others have said, take a break until you can come back and play 30 minutes or so without pain. when you get back to playing, do it with moderation. playing 3 hours of mge (idk if u do) is behind you. like flame said, lifting helps. you basically wanna build up wrist and hamd strength. tbh i used to climb a bit few years back and that helped me a lot, though i realise thats pretty inaccessible. and this isnt at all a good thing to do, but ibuprofen or any anti-inflammatory can basically remove the pain for a while, so if you go to lan or something that is an alternative, though when i do it i wake up with a useless hand which hurts constantly for a few days.

love,
rsi for fucking ages now it fucking sucks fuck me

That's normal. I still get that sometimes.
You just need to take a couple of brakes, just a few minutes, instead of playing for 3 hours straight.

To be honest it be weird if you did not get that, sideways mice can also fix it and wrist stretches.

Your elbows should be above your wrists when you're at your computer

Also you can do these wrist exercises every day:

Get a book called Pain Free by Pete Egoscue. Egoscue believes RSI isn't really a thing, and that humans are designed to repeat motions over and over again. He would say that your wrist pain is caused by an out of position shoulder, and will give you exercises to fix it.

If you are serious about eliminating the pain in your wrist, and in your whole body actually, use that book. It will allow you to play as much as you want.

similar conclusions here kind of (and if u know that group on youtube they're not the type to praise such thinking).

it's definitely not 'normal' to have pain. i lived a very long time with the same habits basically and had no such thing and I know plenty of others too. the first thing im going to try I think is desk height. my arms are actually like outwards (like a birdy) when I play because the desk is higher than my elbows and I rest my arms on the desk due to no armrests.

Humans are designed to repeat actions. Assuming you are in correct alignment, your muscles will get tired long before any joint damage/pain starts, and you will be forced to stop. But if you aren't in correct alignment, your joints are constantly being grinded in ways they are not designed to be used, so join pain starts before muscle fatigue. Egoscue says that repeating actions is not what causes injury; it is being out of proper alignment and repeating actions that causes injury.

You can't force yourself to be in correct alignment with desks or "standing up straight" or whatever advice you normally hear. Only properly exercising will "activate" your muscles and keep your bones in alignment.

So either trust Mr. "that's stupid" or trust the guy with the 743 reviews, 4.5 star, best selling book on becoming pain free, your choice.

If anyone would like to read this "specialists" qualifications for saying while a commonly observed medical and physical health condition doesn't exist here it is http://www.egoscue.com/meetpete.php

In fact none of his "techniques" are revolutionary, actual doctors and physical therapists already advise the methods he supposedly created like practicing good posture and joint health. Like what in the actual fuck this is like common sense even and every professional could tell you the same thing without buying a stupid book regurgitating common medical facts but packing them in a shiny new novel and new age lingo.

RSI is most certainly a thing, repetitive tasks can cause injury to both joints and other muscles or tendons you dumb ass.

Humans are meant to repeat actions, yeah sure okay. That's why we regenerate and create new tissue as necessary. But literally any modern hobby has people developing tendonitis or some RSI because, shockingly, human beings aren't made to squat 900 lbs or throw a 105 mph ball or click and drag a mouse for ~10000 hours, because those are not things you experience in nature. Things like genetics play a huge part in how long you can go, but eventually, your joints and connective shit will give out, which is pretty much an objective fact.

exercising is a great way to make an injury worse u fucking mong. if u haven't noticed, the combined thought of every credible MD or physical therapist in the country is that u should avoid exacerbating an injury by working it

speaking of credible, this is the first thing that shows up when u google ur paycheck. u should probably just kill urself before you convince someone to do something dumb
