you can try some place in orange county.
Irvine has a dance scene if you're interested in that, other than that Irvine takes the place as the most boring city if you choose to make it a boring city. it's a pretty pricey area though so there's that.

I lived in Boston for a few months last year, idk about nightlife or how well maintained you like your parks but otherwise it was pretty solid. Public transportation was clean and easy to figure out, music scene was honestly my favorite part of living there, it's cold as shit around this time of year though

TurinI'm gonna plug columbus.

Seconded, only problem is the fact that it's apart of Ohio and weather is super inconsistent.

Mostly the winter, though. It snows, then rains, then is sunny for a week, then snows and is -10. The summer isn't too bad minus the occasional derecho

TurinI'm gonna plug columbus.

90+ only for like 2 weeks in August.
It's part college town, part city. There's tons of stuff to do. Entirety of High Street is pretty awesome. Plenty of concerts. There are great bars near the Arena District. And with OSU sports, a MLS team, a good AAA baseball team, and a growing NHL team, there's sporting events all year round, and it's actually pretty cheap (AAA games and CBJ games can be like 34$, with OSU and Crew games running higher).
There's some nice parks like shiller park, columbus commons, etc. We got a really cool conservatory with huge grounds and our zoo is one of the best in the world. Within a 30 minute drive we have some awesome metro parks, and an hour away is the hocking hills.
There's decent public transportation for within the city, with buses going to pretty much anywhere.
Has a good music scene that in maybe 15 years could be one of the better ones in the country. There are quality bands, but other than like 30 good ones there's a bunch of shitty metalcore and pop punk bands though. It gets a lot better yearly. There's also an established jazz scene here (Columbus is becoming one of the big jazz towns now). Theres a good EDM scene too.
Internet is hit or miss, depending on where in the city. If it's near downtown, it's great. In the student ghetto (neighborhoods outside OSU), it is really shit. You can get 50mpbs+ (i pay for 50, but end up getting 85) or like 5mbps.

Hello, another Columbus person. Nice to see others in Ohio, granted we live in Gahanna. But yeah, Columbus is actually a pretty nice place to live, in Ohio, which doesn't say a lot. It's main downfall is the price of rentals has skyrocketed in the last 2-3 years. Our house that we have rented for 5+ years was/is 795 a month, but the same homes now rent for 1200+.

If you're considering Chatt, I would recommend you bypass that for Atlanta or Nashville instead - at least as far as the Southeast goes.

Atlanta weather is much better, we're going to get Google Fiber soon enough and there's a lot more to do. The Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains are easy access on weekends anyway if that's important to you. Nashville is pretty superior as well.

Portland, OR, is our dream city if we can make the move someday, so as long as you can find work there I don't think you can go wrong.

So, I'm going on a short trip to a couple of these cities in April; first to Raleigh, then to Nashville, then Austin (right after LAN), and then to Portland. It's too bad I couldn't visit more places, but I'll keep it in mind for the future.

Let me know if you'd like to meet up or hang out! If you'd like to help me out more than that I would appreciate it and can compensate for it. My biggest "problem" right now is figuring out what to do in those cities, any suggestions or otherwise I will take.

  • Not terribly hot weather, for too long
  • Has a decent nightlife, or otherwise interesting events around
  • Well maintained parks are an A+
  • Decent/good public transportation would be great but I know that's pretty rare
  • Has a decent or higher music scene around
  • Good to great Internet is preferred

Nashville, TN

I've lived in Nashville for a really long time so here's a couple things I can point out-

-The weather tends to vary a lot, but it never stays too hot for too long so that's nice. Nashville can experience some periods of extended rainfall, but again nothing that's an annoyingly long time.

-I'm too young to know about the nightlife situation, but there are a lot of events that happen frequently (like watching the Titans get raped every season, and pretty good hockey team if you're into that)

-There are a lot of parks around Nashville that I've been too and are all well maintained. Shelby Bottoms and Edwin/Percy Warner Park are good areas for hiking. Centennial Park has a lot of events that takes place there, and Cheekwood is a cool area if you like botanical gardens.

-The bus system around Nashville is pretty average. Not really much I can tell you about public transportation.

-I don't know what type of music you enjoy, but it really doesn't matter. Nashville has any type of music you could ever want to listen to.

-Google fiber has already said they're coming to Nashville so that's nice.

I'm flying out tomorrow morning and I'll be in at Raleigh around noon! I'm really excited, this is going to be a good trip. Let me know if you'd like to meetup and feel free to pass me suggestions. After Raleigh, I'm going to Nashville, Dallas (LAN), Austin, and then Portland.
