Hello im a streamer and when i just play tf2 i dont have any problems with playing tf2 i have around 200+fps
but when i am useing OBS streaming the game on 1280x720 i have like 40-120 fps and i have installed multible programs and scripts to get more fps i have the LOD bias, have stabby's everything pack, processlasso to get some more fps and delete some processes and razer game booster(razer cortex) and still have pretty shitty fps my specs are
ps. dont have anything overclocked or something

The 2 biggest fps boosters that have helped me are mat_queue_mode -1 in autoexec.cfg and -nod3d9ex in Steam Launch Options for TF2.

What exactly does -nod3d9ex do? It seems to have the same effect as putting -dxlevel 81 into the launch options for me.

yeah what other people said

tf2 is largely dependent on your cpu, and since streaming takes a ton of processor power (especially if you're streaming @ 60 fps) it's going to take a large toll on your performance

i have similar specs and get massive fps loss while streaming as well, but the only thing you can really do about it is to get a capture card/dedicated streaming set up or upgrade your current parts even further to mitigate the impact that streaming causes

would you think it will be better if i sold this processor and bought a i5-4690K

shameless plug for cfg.

if you get a new CPU you need a new Motherboard as well.

Basically fully Disables Aero when you launch TF2.

I thought the FX-8350 was actually really good for streaming? Did I miss something?

I know a good i5 would give you better FPS, but you'd get less of a drop with an FX-8350 due it having 8 threads. An i7 with hyperthreading enabled would probably beat it there though.

You missed the last 3 years.

i5-3570 vs FX-8350 was interesting.
i5-4570 vs FX-8350 isn't.

Why do you think AMD dropped the FX series? They were competing with flagships against Intel's midrange. The best they could come up with was an overclocked version of the same CPU. What Intel came up with (Haswell) destroyed them. As in destroyed the previous flagship vs midrange competition. We're not even talking about i7s.

#15 I definitely did. There's never really much interesting on the processor side anyway since AMD was barely competition even then, so I can't blame myself for not knowing.

So Haswell/Broadwell is a lot better for streaming than Ivy Bridge? I would have thought that Haswell and Broadwell would just be a marginal increase over Ivy Bridge.

If you're using windows 7 you may want to check out cpu parking. A friend of mine has an 8350 and she had a few parked cores.

ErenJayCPU bottleneck

I had a 8320 paired with a HD 7950 and was around 200 to 400 FPS. It isn't a CPU bottleneck.

To OP:

Do not use windows 7 with FX series CPUs. For some reason i get significantly better FPS on windows 8/10 with FX cpus.

Also try messing with core affinity when streaming (have TF2 use threads 0123 and OBS use 4567).

Wait a minute.

How are you streaming TF2? Are you pulling a game capture, or recording the screen?

It almost sounds like you're doing the latter.

FX vs Ivy Bridge i5, IB wins like 7/10. Justifies the higher price. Streaming is part of the 3/10 where the FX wins.
FX vs Haswell i5, Haswell wins 9/10. The FX can still win in very specific scenarios but in the real world it won't happen nearly enough to matter.

Really good + barely competition = does not compute
I am confused.

Budget?
What's your goal in terms of fps/settings?

Now try streaming and you'll see the same fps drops OP gets.

The same as long as you remember to set core affinity. TF2 only really uses 2 cores.

SetsulCalling the 8350 bad even though plenty of people stream on worse with better results than OP

OP, overclock your CPU if you can. Use max frames configs and vpks to increase FPS in tf2 as much as possible. No matter what it's going to drop so you might as well add more head room.

I have a 3570k and overclocking it from 3.4 to 4.2 gave me a bigger FPS boost than some FPS configs, especially for streaming. Don't be scared to do it if you are. The 8350 is a good chip, especially for streaming. Just because it's old doesn't mean you have to change our your whole system for and intel based one (though I do think intel is a LOT better now).

If you get below 120fps after using max frames, vpks, overclocking, and experimenting with using different cores for different tasks then something is probably wrong with your system. I really don't think an 8350 should ever make a game go down to 40fps. That's pretty ridiculous unless you're playing on 32 person servers with shit flying everywhere.

Check your gpu clocks, i had problem with my gtx770 using idle clocks because DX8 maxframes TF2 wasn't demanding enough for it.
