TeamFortressTV is looking for talent!

Thanks to tsc for writing the bulk of the article as well as editing the article images, and Austen 'tagg' Wade for taking the images themselves. You can find his i52 images here, and his new Patreon campaign here.

TeamFortress.TV is looking to continue to push the limits when it comes to creating high-quality TF2 content. To do this, we’re looking to recruit people! Each type of position will be marked with the region where we very likely need people.

Feel free to sign up for multiple spots, as well as being in reserve. Certain positions will require more commitment than other spots (as described), but if you're unsure about what we want, please ask.

ALL positions will require good communication and a positive attitude (in relation to the rest of the TFTV staff), and all positions are on a volunteer basis, so don't feel bad if you don't have the time or motivation for a project with no monetary element (however, we credit all our staff as much as we can!).

Producers (NA) - Producers bring together the entire cast, combining audio, live graphics, and a game view to create a stream that is enjoyable to watch. Potential producers must have the ability to stream to Twitch at high quality (3500 bitrate upload minimum, as well as 720p @ 60 FPS), and are recommended to have skill in managing the in-game camera (WE LOVE YOU DASHNER).

Cameras (EU/NA) - Cameras set the scene for a game by featuring the right players when the action unfolds. Usually, this role is combined with the role of the producer, but recent changes have made this role separable when appropriate. Potential cameras should have a solid understanding of the game, skill in managing the in-game camera, and a stable Internet connection (WE LOVE YOU TRUKTRUK).

Graphic Designers (EU/NA) - Graphic designers help set the overall feel for a cast, making sure that produced content is aesthetically pleasing and producing the graphics necessary to do so. Potential graphic designers should have a good aesthetic sense and experience with creating graphics and designing and working with an overarching theme, and are recommended to have a portfolio for our evaluation.

Casters/Commentators (NA) - Casters bring the excitement to a cast by hyping up the game as it happens and helping break it down. Potential casters must have a great understanding of the game and either a talent for calling the action as it happens or providing high-level insight into the game, and are recommended to have prior casts for our evaluation. NOTE: we're very close to full capacity in terms of casters so this spot is limited (WE LOVE YOU ALL).

Animators (EU/NA) - Animators create video clips of game scenes, usually for the purpose of a background for broadcasts or standing alone as part of a video. Potential animators should have experience with animation (specifically with Source Filmmaker) and are recommended to have a portfolio for our evaluation. NOTE: this is a position that is very flexible, in terms of time commitment (WE LOVE YOU UBERCHAIN).

Writers (EU) - Writers create articles and news stories that cover events related to the competitive TF2 community, including leagues and tournaments. Potential writers should have an understanding of the community and the topics they want to cover, and are recommended to have a portfolio for our evaluation. NOTE: we welcome new article ideas, not just the ones that have traditionally been on the site (WE LOVE ALL OF YOU)!

HUD Developers (EU/NA) - HUD developers create and maintain the in-game HUD such that it matches up with the overall design of the production as well as conveys information accurately and succinctly. Potential HUD developers should be well-versed with HUD design and implementation, and are recommended to have prior HUDs for our evaluation. We have filled this position, thank you for applying!

Live Graphics Developers (EU/NA) - Live graphics developers create and maintain the many dynamic graphics that augment casts, such as the out-of-game overlay and in-game scoreboard. Potential live graphics developers should be experienced with web technologies (specifically JavaScript) and are recommended to have experience developing for the live graphics framework NodeCG (WE LOVE YOU LANGE AND BLUEE).

Game Plugin Developers (EU/NA) - Game plugin developers create and maintain plugins that interface with the game that work to enhance the native functions of the game as well as create new abilities that can be leveraged for broadcasting purposes. Potential game plugin developers should have experience with C++ programming, and are recommended to have experience working with the Source SDK (WE LOVE YOU TSC/BLUEE/GENTLEMANJON).

Promotion
The promotion team is the group that works to publicize TeamFortress.TV events to the community. Additions to this team would help us make these efforts more standardized and consistent. NOTE: This is a very new, experimental part of TeamFortress.TV. These roles are not strict guidelines by any means.

Public Relations Managers (EU/NA) - Public relations managers help disseminate information through many avenues, including social media and other TF2 sites. Potential public relations managers should have a good reputation (this will be heavily scrutinized) within the community and an understanding of how to promote content on different platforms.

Video Producers (EU/NA) - Video producers create and edit videos that are used to promote events, combining audio, footage, and special effects to make truly compelling stories. Potential video producers should have experience with video editing, and are recommended to have a portfolio for our evaluation.

Maybe something else! (EU/NA) - If you feel like you're able to contribute in an interesting fashion, or have a specific talent you'd like to go towards promoting, feel free to apply!

AGAIN NOTE: Because promotion is a new thing we're doing, we welcome new ideas for promotion.

All of these positions are on a volunteer basis. If you are interested in joining the team, you can apply by sending a TeamFortress.TV PM to mana or by adding him on Steam with the opportunities you are interested in and any relevant information to effectively determine your qualifications for the team. If you are interested in helping out and have talents that don’t quite fit into these positions, or have general ideas or feedback for how our productions can be improved, feel free to reach out to mana by PM as well. Thanks for your interest and support.

I would fucking love to produce for TFTV but I really don't have the time to devote that it would need. I need money.

Good luck finding someone, though!

EDIT: Actually... It all depends on whether or not I get the job I applied to. If I do, then maybe I'll have enough free time to produce. Otherwise I won't though.

I forgot to put a time frame; there's no rush and we're always looking to add staff all the time (this is the first time we're doing a huge recruitment post). I'm setting a hard minimum of two weeks before I start adding staff, and it could likely be longer.

Feel free to tell me you want to apply, and then tell me more details later! I'll keep you in mind.

I'd be down to help with the Graphics, my portfolio is more geared towards Visual Effects, but I was a part of the Flares That Care and Tf2Can Graphics team.

Don't forget this kind of stuff goes well on CVs/resumes. When looking for internships last year I could talk about VTV/TFTV experience at every one.

Well, the big job I applied for today has a turnaround of about 2 weeks for the application process. I'm going out tomorrow and job hunting locally anyway. So keep me in mind and I'll keep you posted. It all depends on what kind of hours I find.

I was doing HR for a small firm and interviewed someone for an internship. When we asked about his organizational skills and scheduling, he told us that he was a WoW guild leader and told us stories about getting everyone into raids on time and making sure they knew what they were doing.

I've hired. I only trust genuine nerds with programming jobs.

So did he get the internship?
Or rather, how did the rest of your team feel about his response?

pascalSo did he get the internship?

My boss was super excited about it actually. He knows that I play TF2 semi-competitively and he constantly tries to talk about it, so the interviewee made a great first impression. We did end up hiring him for the internship, but for me, it wasn't because of his WoW experience so much as his ability to take a hobby and describe its professional benefits. He also was able to describe his WoW experience with confidence, something I noted and respected.

In general mentioning something like that is a risk. It's less of a risk in younger companies (our firm is modeled around tech companies and is quite small, so it worked perfectly here) but probably not anything I'd bring up in a more established institution.

If you have any questions about the positions, feel free to post them here and I'll try to answer them!

b4stianHow much of these HUD-development spots are open? Would love doing some HUD-related stuff in my free time for Teamfortress.tv.

We're not looking for too many, but we will add as many as we need or can handle and keep everyone else in mind for the future.

MapleAny reason why you only want writers for EU? Is it because you already have enough NA people?

We've generally got great coverage for NA leagues (UGC HL Platinum + ESEA), which is why we're mainly looking for EU writers, but if you've got ideas for new content that doesn't fall under league coverage, feel free to let us know and apply!
