We used to get 3k+ for LANs, but that's really died down since the quickfix LAN debacle lol, never really gotten up over 2k since if memory serves.

Thank you to everyone doing software development, on-site handling(Mana, Tagg), casting, camera, stellar production, the players, saloon.tf(Cherry), ESEA, the sponsors and everyone who puts so much of their free time into TFTV. Special shout-out to Marxist and Gecks.

According to the S17 thread we actually pulled ~3.5K for the grand-finals. Obviously we went down a bunch since then, but the audience is there (it's just not interested in 4G rolling).
Personal anecdote to back the above up: A lot of my IRL friends who play TF2 casually were simply not hyped about this LAN. Back in December I talked a bunch of them into watching S17 LAN and they were intrigued, but in the end understandably disappointed; they don't really get competitive anyway and none of the matches were close enough to be really exciting from a spectator POV.
This season, I tried, but they just weren't hyped. They know that 4G is still around and still dominant, and the interest just wasn't there.

lots of people wanted to underplay its importance so I like to bring it up every time it's painfully obvious how much of a difference it makes

At this point it's just whining about a nerf. If he hasn't adjusted by now I'd be surprised.

if by "adjusted" you mean "is doing more than 100 dpm less on average", then yes, bdonski has adjusted

Gecks oozes professionalism, this guy casting game is on point. Im sure any esports scene would love someone like him.
And marxist has very good synergy with him.

I thought that whole LAN was pretty interesting. Every team at least came in trying to win. Maybe individual players were being defeatists on their own, but Elevate, who, no disrespect, had a really shaky season, came out against Froyo guns blazin'. But, the truly interesting part, was how teams responded to being pressed by teams that were beating them. We saw mad men, who knowing what I know about the players on that team, I expected would become *more* methodical when pressed, actually started doing odd things to throw off the opposition - and it backfired a lot. It reminded me of myself lol. 20b responded by trying to slow down the game, they let some opportunities pass them by in the interest of playing slower and making sure they were more organized - and it paid off for them, but ultimately wasn't enough, and their last pushes got rushed sometimes because the prize was too much to turn down. Elevate actually really impressed me with a few text-book aggressive plays that worked out really well, but ultimately against Froyo they fell short.
The other neat part about this lan is how MM and Elevate teleported their demos back in time to like 08-09' and went to roaming demos. It didn't win them LAN, but it was neat to see how the teams tried to do it. It's something that hasn't really been done in the upper echelons of TF2 in a long time, and it obviously worked against the 4 other invite teams sometimes.

Well, which one of you invite nerds is going to build a super team to compete? Do it for the viewers. Someone take the initiative and start building.

100% agree, but don't just do it for the viewers. Do it because you want to beat Froyo with a passion.

My opinion on this: the way the demo nerf works, it's a lot more minor on LAN ping than when playing with like 50-60 ping online. Therefore, no team could really rely on a high damage demo online, and most people decided to cope with that fact by having him roam rather than go the other extreme and take demos into basically every uber. Yet, on LAN, demo is still potentially strong enough that having him be a more central part of the combo is worth it, which helped Street Hoops and froyotech a lot. froyo in particular could deal with the reduction in online effectiveness by being so much better than everyone else and making LAN pretty much by default.
I suppose Mad Men was screwed either way because Pharaoh really isn't good enough to make a big impact in high invite. However, I think Bdonski could've done more if his team didn't have that super weird style of giving both soldiers lots of heals and running pyro (didn't I say that was a shit strat???).

they don't need to make a new team, they just actually need to scrim again
