Any competitive format is going to be new for the average casual TF2 player.
It can go both ways:
1. Someone who likes changing up his or her class to help defend/push will find enjoyment in 6s
2. Someone who likes playing one class only will find enjoyment in HL
whichever game mode is used, if not both, will cater to the average casual player one way or another

Flame talked to seagull and I don't think either of them are the type of people to troll about something like that
But yeah, "probably not" so there is still some hope

Demarini just wait for fully charged before you tell us what valve are going to do, no matter what their decision matchmaking is positive for the community, even if it's only some watered down version of HL it will still be a gateway to further competitive formats.

I doubt seagull said anything incorrect, what I don't doubt is that flame is either intentionally or unintentionally trying to read something in what seagull said, misinterpreting it or misunderstanding it. Every question that has been asked so far will be answered on fully charged, please be patient and don't spread rumours of misinformation as though it is fact. I don't care which circlejerk you're in; you don't know the full details.

why are my chat logs being quoted LOL
the only info I have was that valves not a fan of class bans and want to focus on weapon balance more than class specific balance, that they didnt mention a specific format (for all you know theyll come up with a whole new gamemode for it and change the game entirely) and that they agreed 9v9 would be awful to mm with because even 5v5 games have abandonment problems

Demarini Valve is going to sell out because of HATS omg! wow!! I dont even play this game (LOL)
Off in the distance I heard a cry for help. A cry for an uninformed opinion.

Well I'll be accepting posts here, or if it's too embarrassing, private PMs for apologies. I am hurt that no one believed me. I think this thread, and the bashing of dem has been quite indicative of the state of this community, and it's a shame that we can't grow and learn to love highlander just the way 6v6 was loved. This stubbornness is the exact reason that Valve abandoned the TF2 competitive community, Gaben saw how impossible it was to please and cater towards you all, and figured it was better to move on. Move on. Isn't that a funny couple of words. I think it's time for everyone here to make a decision here. Is it time to move on? Or is it time to embrace glorious 9v9 competitive TF2. I know it will be hard to get 9 friends, but I feel like with a community like this, that has prided itself on hard work and dedication, can meet new people to play TF2 with them. But if that is too much, if the task is too steep, then well...I think moving on may be the best thing for you. I personally will end my TF2 career here. I'm looking onward to bigger and better things, and with such drastic changes coming I don't think I can personally handle it. I will miss you all.

DemariniYeah those first few are real unbiased opinions. I'm sure pubstars agree with you.
You do realize that pubstars have little to no concept of competitive? They won't disagree or agree with that statement. However, the first time I watched a match of highlander, it looked confusing and boring. The first time I watched a 6's pug on b4nny's stream, I sorta understood it and started to get interested. It wasn't until like a month ago that I actually started to see the appeal of highlander.

Demarini, i think the issue with your posts is just how wrong you are, and how you try to start shit, try to make your obviously wrong "fact" correct, then attempt to play victim, realize that isnt going to work and continue to start shit again

We tried HL. It didn't work then and has gotten worse since. It can be salvaged with proper balance, but right now, eh.

Gaben had nothing to do with TF2 for ages lol

Obvious false dichotomy.

It's only 8. We can do it. The problem is creating a system that is better than the current one.
But if that is too much, if the task is too steep, then well...I think moving on may be the best thing for you. I personally will end my TF2 career here.
You yourself admitted that you don't play this game lol

Can't say the same.
To be perfectly honest, matchmaking will probably end up being NvN, no classlimits or classlimit 1/2 on each across the board, no weapon bans. Ideally there would be a balance patch before this update.

I love speculation, and honestly both HL and 6vs6 have a lot of issues if they're going to be just thrown into MM.
HL, a lot of pubbers really don't want to be stuck to just 1 class, and trying to keep 18 people playing a full match could be a pain with a bunch of random people some who may/may not be fucking around.
6vs6, has a standard meta that isn't going to be immediately picked up on by pubbers, and if this is ranked (it likely will be) people at lower ranks will likely have the shittiest time imaginable with medics going engineer or heavy or some bs.
Plus 6vs6 is basically just 5CP with some KotH. I'm sure a lot of people would want to play PL and A/D
Would be interested in seeing 7vs7 or 8vs8 being picked up by Valve, but tbh I have no fucking clue.
-edit-
obviously certain classes would need limits of 1 like demo, medic, heavy and the rest probably capped to 2

we used to have 7v7 with two demos...it was... horrifying
then again that was the old old demo with indestructible stickies, i suppose it could potentially work better post-nerf but the thought still terrifies me

As far as deciding class balancing in a 6s format, class limit 1 decided by each team could work, which would naturally be limit one medic and limit one demo

Could you imagine playing a turtle team of 2 Engineers, 2 Heavies, 1 Demo, and 1 Medic?

DemariniThe only response to what I said was blatantly biased opinions saying the 6v6 is a better format so Valve will use that one. That's just...childish almost. DIS ONE BETTER. Yes to you...
It's not like we haven't played other formats. Basically every format you can imagine has been played, and 6v6 came out on top as the most competitively viable.
