Maybe valve can make it zo that at lower ranks players rotate through the main 6s classes each round but can change to utility classes whenever(Or after a minute so they have to be normal classes to mid) and medic has to be medic the whole round. Then at higher ranks(basically the level of ugc iron players and up i guess) it has normal 6s config and player choose the class they want to be and can switch to utility whenever they want.
-new players exposed how each class plays in 6s
-can learn when uuutility classes are best played
-new players wont need to wait half an hour for a medic each game
-experienced players get the optimum 6s experience, with class limits and stuff
-tf2 still keeps the wackiness casual players are used to, but the players who want to get good can eventually get to play with serious people in a really competitive environment.
I know its not perfect but im juat throwing the idea out the possibility

If there aren't class limits, it won't necessarily gravitate toward our current meta necessarily if you're trying to win. I'm sure like 3 meds and 3 heavies/soldiers or something could be effective. I don't know about you guys, but that doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

To be honest I'm just happy that we are getting matchmaking at all, it may be a bit of a clusterfuck at first but I know they really want to listen to the community, and with the stats they will be getting the system will be refined relatively quickly (Taking valve time into consideration). Its still gonna be a fun thing to play with friends and experience imo.

Hopefully this dream can come true for TF2 matchmaking. :)

People keep saying that people that like pubs don't like comp tf2, but I don't think that's always true. After all, unless you are like, one of the founding fathers, we all loved pub tf2 before we started comp. Otherwise why would we bother?

the most casual community, r/tf2 had such a positive response to matchmaking. there is clearly the potential, people just needed a passage into the comp world and now they will have it

very cool to see this. it's a shame that we don't have a "Resources" link/tab or something that is a compilation of links and such directed towards introducing new players to competitive (playcomp.tf, league links, etc.) -- that would have been nice for this recent visitor influx. looking forward to tomorrow's Fully Charged episode, though.

After well over a year of nothing to do with TF2 because sad computer and life getting in the way, I decide to fire up the old YouTube a couple days ago and watch some LAN footage.
Gotta say my timing was good.
Congrats to everyone and everything ever, can't wait to get the gaming rig running and get back into the game!

xero- If valve will divide matches by 6s, HL etc.then HL has a very simple logic behind the rules, but 6s? I dont see a problem in one class being more played than another, but having different class limits is hardly understandable for players who had never played comp before. "Why is there 2 soldiers but 1 demoman? Its unfair." Valve will have to a) limit everything to 1 or b) to 2 or c) no class bans. The closest system to todays 6s is a). But will it be fun to compete that way?
i thought they could use those kinda outdated offense/defense/support categories and just set it to 2 for offense, 1 for defense/support and say it's to keep the game fast paced or something

However they decide to do it, they should be doing extensive in-house testing not on the ranking system, but the format itself (if it doesnt align with the current 6s rules and meta). A bad format can litterally kill MM and I hope it doesnt.

sandhillcelticok a question for the podcast- will there be more advanced tutorials added with matchmaking for things like rocket jumping and the competitive meta?
Seems difficult to make a tutorial on the meta before the matchmaking format has actually been played by anyone outside Valve and before a meta has even had time to evolve.
