I know DDoS's have happened before. What I am saying is that it is more likely to happen when there is money involved than it was in the past. Its got nothing to with it happening to my team. Its got to do with making sure that future prem games are less likely to be affected. I just think people need to be aware now that saloon is getting popular.

I've closed the bets normally as it didn't seem that much of a deal you seem to make it look like especially as you weren't forced to forfeit a game.
What you should do next time is leave the server and ask admin for a chance to replay on a different date.

As for shutting down Saloon because of this it's almost impossible for a potential DDoSer to attack you if you're careful enough and one could say that if you really want to win you can take few easy extra steps so I'm with Ondkaja on this one.

Problem isn't Saloon.tf, problem is people's greed. Site that is potentially good for growth and interest into competitive TF2 should not be shut down based on an isolated incident. Don't let fear defeat you, stay strong my brother Sheepy.

Follow advice given by others to protect from DDoS attacks as standard, especially if you expect to be casted.

Also ETF2L couldn't ban Saloon from putting bets up on their matches, even if they tried. Only person who can is Cherry, though efforts can be made to find and ban those attempting to abuse the system, ultimately responsibility lies with the user, not the creator. This isn't the Atomic Bomb that's been created, it's a hobby betting website on virtual items.

Using a VPN is against the Steam Subscriber Agreement. Thus far Valve have only punished people who have used a VPN to engage in fraudulent activities, but people are taking a small risk if they choose to use one.

With Steam calls, just receiving the call exposes the IP; you don't even have to accept it. Be careful about accepting friend requests, especially near matchtime.

Nah, Valve patched that exploit some months ago. You don't reveal your IP until you accept the call nowadays.

CHERRY I love you and think you and your site are great. I do not think you should shut down Saloon.tf yet as its great for tf2. I think this thread should just be a warning for people to protect themselves as best they can in prem this season (and you americans). So far I agree that we should keep saloon up and try to get people to realize that they are more at risk of getting ddos'd now though and should read up about how to protect themselves as best as possible.

The last game I can think of in Europe that was DDOSed was the High Final in Season 20, when the outcome was already evident. There weren't a lot of bets on saloon iirc, and it could have just been a dodgy server. Equally here, it could have just been scrab's internet bugging out. I don't think it's really a big problem in the scene, nor is it likely to get bigger.

The highlander grand final happened yesterday which ended in an upset causing people to lose a fair bit of ecurrency. Nobody got DDOSed. I am inclined to believe that there is no link between saloontf and DDOSing; people did it before and will do it again, but it makes no sense to blame betting or even consider removing it. Just gotta try and make it as hard as possible for people to do it.

Outcomes on one game with higher stakes not being affected by DDoS does not provide conclusive evidence that there isn't a link between DDoS attacks and particular matches. However all evidence in this instance is circumstantial, you cannot go around accusing people of influencing the results through a third party or otherwise based on their friends betting patterns, there isn't enough evidence to suggest this and though it could be possible, without any concrete evidence you cannot determine guilt.

There is conclusive evidence TLR Nico violated ToS by betting on his own game and he may be held accountable for this, but beyond that there isn't anything else wrong and I think it is unfair to TLR to suggest they might be involved in a DDoS attack.

However I wouldn't rule out this sort of thing happening or being a reality - When money is involved, human nature and greed will lead to people being corrupt, strong rules and guidelines need to be put in place, leagues need to address the issue. Even if they have to look at other leagues and how they address the issue with CS:GO Lounge, I'd expect any policy-setter to be ahead of the game on this.

I have a static IP, however if I reset to default factory settings it resets my IP. I was getting DDoS'd during WoW raids for quite a time so I know from experience >_>

All French serveme.tf servers are protected and the VanillaTV servers are on a 10Gb link.

We've been in this situation before in previous ETF2L seasons without the 'greed' of betters, just people being dicks for the lulz. Worst case we'll end up with VPN-ed servers + players, but that still leaves the players as the weakest link, because if only one or two of their IP addresses are known, you can still ruin a match.

From the description, I don't think it was a DDoS yesterday. You just time out if someone floods your connection with a couple hundred megabit of junk traffic, not have the 900ms ping of a porn torrenter.
Why DDoS the best player if you can just DDoS the medic and ruin every uber a team ever tries to build....

Dota2 players get ddosd because they took almost little to no effort to protect themselves, they still used Skype and made themselves incredibly vulnerable, it happened to CSGO but it's not as common anymore.

And as Arie said, 2+ years ago and going even further back servers/players were ddosd loads of times, hell I remember Byte being specifically targeted for ddosing so much that they even ddosd the pub servers he played on.

TF2 probably isn't worth the time ddosing players for refined and shit.

if your teammate has 900 ping, its probably not ddos, more like a shitty connection. however since the internet still works in some capacity your friend can easily check if its ddos. (by typing netstat -a, router logs, wireshark etc and looking at the connections).

if some retard is trying to dos by pressing 2 buttons in loic or something we might even get his ip and be able to retaliate. the chance of the attacker being retarded is high, as evidenced by the internet still being up (if there is an attacker at all).

maybe ascertain that it is in fact ddos before posting random shit?

The point I was trying to make is that ddosing is more likely to happen with saloon.tf so people need to watch out.
