let's get excited for fallout before we get depressed for Doom.
InhakeWell, looks like it's on an updated Creation engine,
Maybe not.
I am seeing a bunch of physics and lighting effects in the trailer that the Creation engine isn't capable of. If it is then it is a pretty damn good update. I am hoping for 64 bit (muh mods).

Doom looks great so far, what're you talking about? I've heard that it has taken some inspiration from Brutal Doom, so it's gotta be fast paced. Don't know how they are gonna make a corridor shooter out of that.

joejoe347FO3 and NV have pretty poor stories.
Whoa there Nelly!
I understand if the main quest of NV might have not felt very involving, what with mostly being about Mojave Wasteland geopolitics, but the companions? The sidequests? The brilliant DLCs? The quality of the writing itself? Gimme a break.
In that aspect New Vegas was definitely an improvement over Fallout 3. Hell, it was an improvement in everything but the atmosphere. There were not enough spooky vaults for instance.

Yeah, I should have specified that the it's the actual main quest I don't find extremely interesting. The side quests and random things you run across are where the game really shines.

botmodethe main quest line for nv felt incomplete imo
It was, the Caesar side was supposed to be way larger and more fleshed out. The game ends up being one note because the NCR is pretty much the only significant faction

I wish FNV gave an actual incentive to play as the "good guy" other than just being the good guy. If you've beat FNV being the good guy, there's probably one huge flaw that you'll notice: the good guys have a shit ton of good shit lying around that won't actually be touched and cannot be obtained unless you loot it yourself, thus making you steal it and lose karma, making you ever so slightly more of a bad guy. I mean, for fuck sake, the good guy side of this game has all this amazing loot lying around, and unless you steal it, contradicting what it means to be a good guy, you have to wait until basically the end of the game, where you actually have enough disposable money to buy whatever you want, to indulge yourself in the possibilities of all these items. However (here's a shocker...), if you're the bad guy, you can rightfully, in terms of bad guy morals, just steal all this shit and them hating you won't be a problem cause they already do. There's something actually annoying about this. The NCR has all this unused shit lying around that remains as such, yet they constantly complain about being underpowered and without enough men. I mean, come the fuck on... You have all these actually good weapons and somehow some rebels without these actually good items are a threat? L-O-FUCKING-L. You see, this would have been a viable issue IF THE BAD GUYS ACTUALLY HAD GOOD LOOT TO CONTEST THEM WITH. And that's where this actually becomes an issue. The NCR has all this good shit that you can basically obtain right away if you're the bad guy. What if you're the good guy? Well, then you have to experience what it means to basically grind out the game until getting all this shit is no longer a financial dream. But wait, now there's a new problem! It gets to this point... and then you beat the game soon after. WHELP
Speaking of the karma system, the karma system is/was shit. They worked that out pretty well in Skyrim, at least in comparison. It was pretty shitty, but the worst part about it was that you can steal from an opposing faction and still lose overall karma. Sorry, game, I didn't realize morality was so important in this regard, despite what the entire game is about. You win; I won't try to help the good guys by stealing from the bad.
On top of that, I wish I had the ability to make things harder. There's hardcore, which more or less just makes thing more inconvenient, but not necessarily harder. The first time coming face-to-face with the legion in, I believe, Nipton was pretty underwhelming when I decided to be against them. The numbers were about 7-10 to 1 and it didn't feel nearly as hard as it should have.
Using any weapon type other than "guns" was pointless outside of a gimmick save state. Energy weapons, at least, should have been more interesting and had more variety. Even the unique energy weapons were basically mirrors with small stat differences most of the time. If I wanted to play as a butch woman wielding nothing but melee weapons, I should have been able to do that without feeling hopelessly underpowered. I mean FFS, the melee weapons had more variety and unique attributes than the "guns" weapon spectrum, yet managed to fail in overall (especially endgame) usefulness.
The only other issue that I can think up at this moment was that the entire idea of exploration was underwhelming. You have all these unique areas to visit, yet 85% or more of them serve no purpose other than to make you believe there's actually some formidable attempt at open world exploration when there wasn't. At the very least, I guess it could have been worse since they tried to at least give some loot, despite how useful it hardly was.
Despite all the obvious issues, at least for me, I still had a ton of fun. At least enough to nearly 100% finish it. I just hope these issues get resolved in some positive way with FO4.
edit: readjusted a couple areas of this essay to make it make more sense in terms of my feelings towards the latest installment, rather than a long wall of blabber.

Everything about Caesar's Legion is retarded. Nothing about it's existence makes any sense even using fallout logic. I don't even see them being necessary as a plot devise. Honestly the NCR's imperialist takeover of Nevada should have enough conflict to make horribly cliche villains like the legion unnecessary. Hell they could have done something involving a Anarcho-Communist faction rising out of a labor movement caused by the re-industrialization of the wasteland. There is even some cool royalty free theme fitting music to go with it.
They could have had bums riding the reactivated railway looking for work. They could have had rebuilt infrastructure and activated factories. They could have had farms everywhere. They could have had new construction. They could have had worker riots at the NCR controlled mines and quarry.
When i think what could have been done with the Fallout IP and what they shat out i cringe. The worst part about all of this is that despite all these flaws the writing still makes more sense than FO3.

Bottom line: considering FNV was made in roughly a year and a half by a studio that inherited technology completely alien to them from another developer, wouldn't you say it turned out quite alright in the end?

Ehh I think your vitriol is misplaced. There will always be things and plots that could have been done, but I don't think an homage to mad max and an interesting take on historical repetition is NECESSARILY inferior to any other conceivable plot.
The legion is an interesting faction in theory, hell it plays a lot on traditional Romantic (1800's not roman) utopian thought. It just wasn't well thought out, and in the rush to completion the legion got snipped and flattened into an unfortunate caricature. The issue, however, was never the concept, but the execution of the concept.

I don't think you get the fact that the entire Fallout series is basically a tongue-in-cheek take on an post-apocalyptic scenario, and was never really meant to be realistic or plausible.
