monotHonestly those bans sound perfectly reasonable. tf2center shouldnt be a fuck-around place, if you wanna troll go play a pub. There are a lot of new players trying out comp through tf2center.
wtf lmao no they dont. tf2c is pubs. or d6 lowest. no comms. no anything. seriously, its a shitsite. w/e

Yeah, I was wholly unimpressed with tf2center with this event. The second the teams were decided and we got into the mumbles, we were like "yo these teams are stupid". All the tf2c admins on our team (and it was a lot rofl) said it would be fine and we'd just play it. "The number of stars are even" means literally nothing when the enemy team has literally the best demoman, a top level heavy, a plat scout, and a plat spy.
I've rung medic for a steel eu highlander team and it was less painful than playing that game. Explaining what suicides are and where to hold are things that I should be doing in highlander newbie mixes, not a showmatch broadcasted to 500 people.
Makes me feel very uncertain about advanced lobbies and the skillgaps that will exist in them.

It's a showmatch to publicise it, it's not supposed to be a highlight of how AL will function. The target audience is not plat players, I doubt many of them will play, and the skill gap will be lower.
The point of this is that it's better than normal lobbies, not that it suddenly solves all problems ever...

To be fair most of the players of the showmatch had their monitors turned on which can more than qualify them for advanced lobbies.

I think the 6s games were far more balenced. Although that issue is part of what makes hl what it is. A competitive match with 18 players will easily be harder to balance than 12 players. That said I think the AL system is very exciting and will pave the road to more serious play at a lower level.

Division is also taken into account. Which makes it the most advanced balancing system currently out there for TF2.

I think the fact that they managed to fuck up showmatches this bad should raise a lot of red flags about general management of advanced lobbies. The admins show over and over how unwilling to listen to criticism they are. It goes as far as people getting mumble bans because they use a toggle bind instead of using push to talk, and some steel admin telling an invite player that they aren't using mumble correctly.

there was an incident where a certain admin chat banned a few people at once due to chat flaming. one of the people who was supposed to be banned didn't end up being punished by the admin who made the thread despite his name being on the supposed to be banned list along with the others banned, because the admin was friends with him.
however, someone noticed that the supposed to be banned person was talking in the tf2c chat so he contacted a non-biased admin (ninjamoocow) and had the person banned the next day lol.

But not ESEA division? The advanced lobbies page doesn't mention it, and some players in the showmatches (including me) had trouble getting in due to not playing lobbies or UGC.

Yeah you have to go to the History tab on a player's profile
For example https://play.esea.net/users/691438?tab=history (they are on the right)
I don't know that you can look up a player by their Steam ID though. I suppose you could have them manually enter their ESEA profile and then verify it by cross referencing with the Steam ID on that ESEA profile.

do we have to do anything special besides the sign up thing to get into the beta of advanced lobbies?
surprised there isn't an email confirmation or anything if so
i see a lot of people already playing in them
although i guess that just means i didn't get into the beta lol

they use tf2p rankings which means that unless u played a shitton of lobbies before this to get yourself to where u actually are it wont work out - it will take a longgggggggggg time since the stats dont change much per game

I read something about manually applying for advanced lobbies, I don't know what that's about though
I think you're able to play advanced lobbies if you go to your TF2Center profile and have a blue star next to your name + a graph of classes you're "advanced" at, not entirely sure though

apparently i'm not qualified enough to play lobby heavy lol I guess since I rarely stray from 6s classes that means those are the only ones I can play despite a season of silver as pyro I'm apparently not good enough to play pyro but iron/steel players can... whatever this is legit retarded
OH YEAH AND WHEN THE LOBBY READIES EVERYTHING FUCKED UP
and you can't get subs
and it was awful

There was a link on their Advanced Lobbies announcement page directly to the manual application page
I played 2 6v6 lobbies with good comms that weren't a completely roll and were moderately competitive and had some fun moments. Sounds like fun 6v6 TF2 to me.

It's decent for 6's, but awful for highlander. Most of the highlander ones turn into giant stacks that are worse than regular stacked lobbies.
