when it comes to hip hop I tend to latch on to producers and follow whatever project's they're working on/find new shit they've done by looking them up on rap genius and seeing what else they've worked on, then use those new tracks as jumping off points
for example madlib(on stones throw) is famous/prolific as fuck and using this method I've found dope tracks like burgundy whip, please set me at ease, forever beef, etc
and then most tracks have whole albums surrounding them. never woulda actually listened to old lootpack shit or other blu tracks<<<hard as fuk otherwise
and thats just one producer lol there are your big names like madlib dilla pete rock kanye, now flylo nosaj etc and then following labels opens you up to dudes like mndsgn knxwledge scifi stu and other artists like black spade thavius beck etc

tl;dr follow stones throw plug research redefinition hipnott etc on twitter, look up artists on rap genius, go deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole until you fucking die forever fuck you
