This is my current setup: Beyer DT990 Pro, hooked into an O2 DIY and fed by an Audiophonics U-Sabre (ES9023).

As for HD600 vs HD650, it depends on whether he wants something darker (HD650), or something less veiled (HD600).

You should go for Astro A50s, everyone knows that Gaming headsets are the best.

But in a serious note, I used to work in a music studio and we all had THESE

As for soundcard, I can't exactly remember, but we had an amp tower, and I forgot to model of the soundcard we used for recording.

I'm using these - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0086SKGL6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1436901560&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX200_QL40&keywords=Monster+Inspiration&dpPl=1&dpID=31VRPQI-b8L&ref=plSrch with a pair of stock on-board audio card and they're incredible. Crystal-clear highs, powerful-deep bass and an incredibly detailed midrange. They are really comfy, sit well on my decently big head. I do recommend you to get them.

Heard great things about Sennheisers and this badboy. It is a project though so I've heard and will probably cost me.

Astonishingly, you can now get Hifiman HE-500s for around the price of Sennheiser HD650s. In all honesty, I'd take them over the Sennheisers any day. They objectively beat the Sennheisers in most measurement tests, but of course the sound profile you look for in a pair of headphones is simply a matter of preference.

On another note I would also recommend the hifimans over sennheiser, but they are a lot less comfortable.

I wouldn't lie if I said part of my decision was in comfort. I do spend lots of time at the computer.

ShiftaOn another note I would also recommend the hifimans over sennheiser, but they are a lot less comfortable.

No lie, they are the heaviest headphones I've ever worn, but I find them extremely comfortable, since they balance the weight pretty evenly across the top of your head and around your ears. I wear the HE-500s up to 8 hours a day and don't experience any neck or head fatigue. After getting used to the weight, I don't even notice I'm wearing them anymore. I will note that some people do indeed find them uncomfortable, so your mileage may vary.

for comfort my pick goes to the sennheiser hd800: http://hifiguy.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/ss.SEH800.hfh_.69.png

a lot of headphones will build up pressure on my ears and they'll start to hurt, or my ears will get very hot, or the material of the padding irritates my skin after a while.
it feels so freeing to be able to listen to sound without any physical annoyances of the headphones. good on you for taking comfort seriously, because it makes a good difference in how much you enjoy your phones and your sound.

I won't jump onto the bandwaggon and post setup pics.

About the HE-500: No, they are definitely the wrong recommendation in this case.

Comfort is actually the least of the three problems with them. It depends on your head shape, if the metal band fits you'll be fine, otherwise you just need to mod the headband with some pads, and you'll get used to the weight fairly quickly.

It's not like they aren't good headphones, but they are out of production and for a reason. There's newer, better options.

They are already far more expensive than the HD600/650 on their own and you absolutely need an amp, so I can't see <600$ happening.

However you might want to take a look at the HE400S.

Im glad people posted their setup and to be quite honest, it's nice to not be the only hi-fi audio enthusiast in here. Very nice setups!

I own a Bottlehead Crack with the Speedball upgrade.

I havent done the soldering by myself or the assembly. (0 experience and i wanted a trusted builder to do it for me. Found someone that has built it to the highest standard.)

Be carefull if you want to stay on a budget, it can cost you a quite a bit if you dont have the necessary equipment to do the soldering and other stuff. Also, messing up can be a pain.

Remember that the only way to own a crack amp kit is basically to buy it directly from their website, which is USD.

You also dont have a DAC for this price.

It does sound fucking amazing tho and it's quite fun to test different tubes...
I bought a Tung Sol 5998 and oh boy, it sounds delightfull. Radiohead album's are holy amazing on this setup.
Not gonna lied, it cost me quite a few bucks for everything tho. =/ Canadian $ sucks ass.

1000$+ of audio equipment 10$ camera. rip

HotCoffeePhunkI think the hardest part of achieving high quality audio is not the equipment, but rather all the artists that distribute with 320kbps bitrates. It can be such a pain to find quality audio sometimes.What.cd is the number one place for high quality and lossless music, though its a bit of a mix between the illuminati and the russian mafia.

i think im missing something, how do you even login/use what.cd?

get interviewed or know someone who has an invite

the latter is easier

just got the hd650's in the mail. Just without dac/amp i notice they are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than what i was using. i was kinda disappointed seeing the actual headphones because it looked uncomfortable but it's very very comfortable somehow.

i do hear a good amount of crackles though in lows and highs, but thankfully i got an o2+odac for $255 canadian thanks to x3 linking the canuckaudiomart ad. in comparison a new o2+odac would cost $300 usd total which is over $380 cad. so ill write something when i get that.

i do have access to a robotics lab and have experience building circuits and such so i still may do a bottlehead crack project in the future when i can pour that kind of money into it.

so to sum up, $600 total (taxes) for the sennheiser hd650's, and another $255 for o2+odac. Over budget but w/e i can afford it.
$850 CAD total = $660 USD
