Ond_kajaAre you allowed to pick up other weapons?

The medi-gun ruling will be forced by plugin (...unless sm starts breaking everything) so that's going to stop that currently (using tf_dropped_weapon_lifetime).

Is there a way to allow pickups other than the medi guns? If so, it's what i'd prefer to do but i'm not sure there is currently (?) - you probably know more than I do.

No you can't disable weapon type pickups. We were discussing doing it like that for the nations cup / following HL and 6s seasons,
We came to the conclusion that if this is a functionality that Valve has implemented and can't be disabled via a config then we should try to adapt to that.

Allowing uber pickups is dumb as fuck. The few times we played with it, if your med died on mid and your team lost the mid even if you killed the other teams medic. The other team got mid and picked up their/your medics uber and pushed last with ~70% uber advantage.

I don't think it's odd to avoid being one of the first as it's a position of risk. I'd be more inclined if this wasn't a once-a-year event under the biggest spotlight. I think we should be adapting, which is why ideally i'd have liked to have seen more play up to now but that's not really happened. I'm just listening to the chorus line and if that avoids the crazy snowballing that this enables then i'm happy enough.

Allowing medigun pickups is the most retarded mechanic in TF2. There's basically no point in dropping a medic anymore simply because they can just pick it back up. It would be different if the uber degenerates over the time its on the ground or if the drop instantly loses 50% uber.

Guys, we need tournaments upon tournaments of PROOF that picking up an enemy medic's medigun is a bad mechanic.

As was said earlier, both teams can pick up an enemy's medigun, therefore balancing the mechanic.

If you mean "no team has an advantage other than the skills that they have practiced/reflexes/etc." then sure, it's balanced.

If you go with the more common definition in gaming, that it makes the game more fun for more people, then most people would say no, it's not balanced.

Except the team that kills the medic can have two mediguns with uber. There's never a case of one team having 3 or 4 scouts.

What's most important is the game flows fine with it. Sure, things are balanced in the sense that both teams are equal, but that doesn't mean it's a good addition. You could make that argument over pretty literally everything, but here we are with weapon bans and whatnot.

Quickfix was dumb because teams weren't used to it. It's not a problem now, but it was back when it got buffed originally because people weren't aware of how to properly respond to it. I don't think anyone wants something similar to happen at i55 with a team rolling the competition solely because they've scrimmed with pickups more than any other team, even if that's a small risk.

A year from now we'll probably call ourselves dumb for disagreeing with medigun pickups. That's for i58 though, right now it's still a new mechanic that could potentially shake things up badly.

I believe Kaptain also has to catch a flight in the afternoon so the finals were some time around ~1pm? Can't quite remember but it wasn't planned to be in the evening so you should be fine to get back to scotland for your dad's work in the morning.
