SideshowCondoMWhat a fucking joke.
Not a single team was playing with its full roster so the cup could be played when Froyo could play and then froyo just fuck off and don't even show up. And not just froyo fucking off but the fact that no results can be drawn from this cup as it was literally just mixes playing other mixes, massive delays and practically half of the scheduled games actually got played. Really REALLY needs better organizing.
Think about how all that looks to zowie when they decide to sponsor a tournament for our scene - and valve, who mentioned the tournament on their site which gathered a shitton of views.
It just simply makes the tf2 competitive scene look like a fucking joke which to be fair, today, it was.
NOTHING to do with the organisation that everyone was playing with mixes.
Teams are offered a $500 tournament. 10 teams are approached, all given the dates a month in advance and asked to raise any issues. We change the date of the event to suit teams about 4 times before it is finalised a few weeks later.
If even with that amount of forewarning and liaising with the organiser there are no teams without 2 ringers then it's just a consequence of the teams not planning well enough or people genuinely being too busy to commit time to TF2. It's not on me to make sure you're not using mix teams you fucknuggets! I gave you long enough to plan ahead and choose subs, along with incentive to do it.That is nothing to do with the organisation (which was bad re: delays and pretty much nothing else since david is a boss and covered for me perfectly).
I didn't mean to blame you for the players not showing up, sorry.
It was just more of a maybe we could've found another time or stretched it out a bit longer instead of committing an entire day in response to the fact that the majority of teams couldn't field their core players to the tournament. Although dates were apparently changed a lot then the blame goes more onto those teams or whatever. It's just such a horrible preview of our wonderful scene for whenever a "serious" tournament/cup like this turns up, to have it turn into such an awful dissapointment.

DavidTheWinmegalinxWhy is just froyo getting shit tak condoM is right a shit ton of euros didnt make it either and most of them knew beforehand War,nico, serotone, knoxx, tek (whos been on vacation for like a month) some of these people could have been gone for similar reasons that froyo were gone
The difference is that barring alle and I think war, all the european teams had players lined up to merc.
We had huhy lined up to merc all day but his net dropped out after the first game.
Sorry for any delays caused by that :7

being a good player doesn't make you immortalized in any sort of way, or in any community.
Face it clockwork, you and your team royally fucked up. Sideshow clearly gave you a huge amount of time to plan ahead, and despite the amount of time he gave you, you couldn't go ahead and tell your 'family' that 'something important has come up at x:xx. I cannot be disturbed then.' Even then you could not even give out a message saying that you can't make it, and I don't see why you couldn't tell anyone.
And worst of all, after the disappointment you and your team have made, your pride is so big that you'd rather give a snappy response rather than a sincere apology. Did you really think that people would accept that answer? It was clear that you could've gotten out of this a lot easier if you had just apologized, but you and your pride just decided to snap back because your skill makes you 'immortal' here.
TL;DR
Froyo needs to give a sincere apology to us, and until then there's no point in giving them any support.

Almost all the comments in the thread are about how froyo didn't show up, represent themselves and win some games for NA. All they did here was duck out and lose. Sounds like the opposite to me.

I honestly can't see how 5/6 froyo players just happened to have last minute conflicts or how a pug team wouldn't be better than a no-show

Lack of communication between the production crews and the players has been a longstanding issue in TF2 and this really needs to change.
This is a two way street.
The production crew needs top players to show good matches and get good viewership and the players need the production crew to gather support, get fans and get in the light of sponsors.
I've seen both sides of the issue after playing in invite for several season and after working with the production crew. There is a lack of communication on both sides and it needs to be addressed.
Speaking on the topic at hand.
Froyo couldn't make it, its not their fault. However they could have told the production crew earlier and let them know.
They could also offer an explanation of why they couldn't make it to the tournament for everyone to see.
The issue here isn't that they bailed, the issue is that everyone doesn't know why they didn't show up.
Hundreds of people were expecting you guys to be there, just let them know what happened yo.
If people wanna be mad that real life shit happens then let them be mad. Its better than not saying anything and letting people come up with reasons as to why you couldn't make it.
As for the production crew. There need to be stronger efforts to reach out to players.
We need a community manager that has every single invite player added, or have a chat group with every single invite player in it for easy communication or something.
This stuff has been going on for far too long. These two groups rely on each other, there needs to be stronger communication between them

Euros haven't had everyone as well, so it could be pug team vs pug team.
Watching something it better than watching nothing and not knowing what happened.

I wonder if they had shown up had this tournament happened before the fundraiser, you know at a point in time where they actually needed sth from the community.

AlkalineDavidTheWinGeknaiirim waiting for b4nny's wall of text to justify everything and then make everyone look like a jackass
Thing is, b4nny was awake and available to play even after streaming until 2am. I don't blame b4nny at all aside from not looking at a roster sooner.
Yeah, almost certainly wasn't b4nny's fault. He probably told his team, but then everyone just peaced or didn't show up. That's happened plenty of times before with Froyo (often screwing other gamers over in the process, like here), and it'll happen again. Pretty sad tbh
And don't even get me started about trying to talk to people on Froyo when writing articles. It took two months just for b4nny to accept my friend request on Steam, for gods sake.
Why do you always chime in so confidently while knowing so little on these topics? ... everything youre saying is speculation, it has no meaning without someone giving an official response. What is the point of you posting if its in a hostile manner and not at all constructive? You're just venting immaturely on a topic you know nothing about.

Yeah man you hit the nail on the head. SURELY that was what happened. The only thing that's worse than sensationalized titles are people like you who pretend they know exactly what's happening. Also, here's what you want to do if you want to contact me for something regarding an interview. You send me a PM through absolutely any service available (tftv, twitch, Twitter), tell me why you're adding me, then you send me an invite. Don't send an invite to one person and then get upset when they don't accept the request. You're purposely limiting the things you can do to achieve success in order to complain about it later. Getawhale added me on steam for a similar reason, noticed I wasn't accepting (because I don't look at them), and told me to accept it on Twitch. It's actually that easy.
PRETTY SAD TBH that a post like this was even made
you forgot to mention why you didn't have the decency to wake your sorry ass up in time, kid don't focus on getting tons of friend requests

Oh, yeah, the Steam snooze option is actually just a clock linked to my sleep cycles and it tells everyone that I'm sleeping! Last night we found out very abruptly we couldn't play. We should've been more aware of what was going on as a team, but it was far too late to even contact someone like sideshow to tell him we couldn't play. The best we could've done was send a message to an offline representative, which would've given them only a few hours' notice regardless. I had family over today. I wasn't going to sit around and see if we could scrape together 3 ringers. Sorry! Call me anything you like, but finding out last night we weren't going to field the members meant I was going to dedicate 100% of the time to my family and friends instead of dangling in purgatory waiting for something to happen.
I appreciate your concern with me though, kid.
"kid"
that's so fucking condescending, it's not even funny.
I want to believe this isnt real. The guy insults clockwork in a demeaning way by calling him kid and being a straight dick... then he responds BACK sarcastically with kid, and you're mad at clockwork? ok.
AlkalineclckwrkAlkalineViperAlkalineIt took two months just for b4nny to accept my friend request on Steam, for gods sake.
He probably gets 20+ friend requests a day.
Yes, and he was told through two different people to accept the request multiple times. I also asked b4nny on stream, again, multiple times. It wasn't like I just added him and waited lol
Add someone else. You're very free to add anyone from the team. The circle jerk surrounding this thread might make you content but I can assure you if I needed to get an interview from a team, I wouldn't add one person and sit like a hen on its egg for multiple weeks. You just have bad management skills.
b4nny was by far the best player to add from froyotech. he's well known and has been consistently the face of Froyotech as its leader. I chose to have Tery ask b4nny my questions (thanks homie), instead of gambling on another 4g player.
And you're calling my management skills poor right now? Really?! questionable

Whatever reasons you guys had to not show up, clockwork, nobody knew. All that was known fact is that your team didn't show up for an important event, planned in advance, without any previous notification.
In that situation it's expected of your team to politely apologize and explain it's reasons. Not that it makes no pronunciation, and you come here to respond to the obvious, predictable and sensible, frustration with inflated sarcasm whilst dodging the main point several times.

Apologies, I can't fit all of this on to 1 post.
kosI really doubt any of them give a shit. If you can't get 6 that day for whatever reason then that's fine. But if you gave a shit about the tournament and how outsiders perceive tf2 in general then you would determine whether or not you could play early (i.e. not the night before), prepare for the tournament or contact the organisers so that you don't just no show and make the tourney look like a complete fucking joke. This coupled with their reluctance to play showmatches for a fundraiser that would give them money for a free holiday (as well as hyping up i55) just makes froyotech come across as arrogant dickheads.
Again, really dude? You know NOTHING on any of these situations, yet somehow you feel the need to post and we're the bad guys? Clockwork reached out to kaidus to set up a showmatch with them and he messaged clockwork back telling him he forgot to talk to his team. Thats where we're at dude. What do you want from us? Clearly OTHER people, everyone included here, makes mistakes. Yes, I can't wait for my free holiday where the Canadian dollar is $0.49 there and I'm going to be fucking broke. Great holiday. Thanks again for all your kind words.

Clockwork signed us up for the tournament 3-4 weeks back and told everyone.. no one agreed or disagreed with it. Honestly nothing was really said at that time. 2 weeks ago he brought it back up and we talked a bit. I had said that I wanted to play and shade, duwatna, ash, and grant also said they would like to play, but there might be complications. Shade had said that if it went past 1-2pm he couldnt play because he had to go to work. Duwatna had said that he needed to check his schedule to see if he was working. Another week goes by and nothing is said, so I bring it up this time in mumble before scrims and ask everyone whats happening. Steve had said that he can't play because he has work and won't be able to make it and shade is still in the same boat as before. We said we would talk after scrims, but no one says anything again. So I message b4nny the next day over steam and I say so are we playing or whats happening? I have work but I can call out or switch my shift around but I need to know whats happening. I don't want to call out of work if we're not going to play. Thats where I left the conversation and finally at 11 pm Friday night I was told we're not going to play. Thank you for all the insults directed towards us and the praising of b4nny, makes me feel great to contribute and be a part of this community.
Apologies, I can't fit all of this on to 1 post.
I really doubt any of them give a shit. This coupled with their reluctance to play showmatches for a fundraiser that would give them money for a free holiday (as well as hyping up i55) just makes froyotech come across as arrogant dickheads.
rshadesspammyrshadesso much froyohate, just because people are tired of them winning
?
if a team like lego did this no one would care
LEGO isn't going to lan nor they had a 5k dollars fundraiser to take them there nor they represented an entire scene in this tournament. And much less bring in the stream numbers, your post is totally irrelevant to the situation at hand

taggLack of communication between the production crews and the players has been a longstanding issue in TF2 and this really needs to change.
*snip*
As for the production crew. There need to be stronger efforts to reach out to players.
We need a community manager that has every single invite player added, or have a chat group with every single invite player in it for easy communication or something.
This stuff has been going on for far too long. These two groups rely on each other, there needs to be stronger communication between them
Organising things with euro teams has been a breeze the past two seasons of ETF2L. Having one (preferably multiple) community managers with everyone added would be great though.

I think people are just giving each other too much of a hard time about this and one apology from anyone on froyo will make it better

Across the board I'm just seeing people talk about this situation with pretty much no information, and while I should be used to it by now, It's getting pretty annoying so I'll shed some light on it.
From my perspective, this was simply an issue of miscommunication. As far as I know, we got involved with this tournament somehow through a casual conversation between clockwork and one of his many EU friends that was involved in the organization of this event. My understanding of it was that it was a tentative agreement and that clockwork never promised we would be there nor with any roster even remotely resembling our starting 6. He's not even the leader of the team, I am, and I was never approached/contacted by anyone organizing this to either be invited or to confirm any details whatsoever. Admittedly, I could have sought them out, but I was under the assumption that clockwork and everyone behind the scenes were on the same page and had it handled. The impression I got was that this was supposed to be a casual, "if it happens it happens," kind of tournament where we would just pugscrim and feel out some of the other teams while getting rick rolled due to our ping disadvantage. Because of that, and the seeming lack of pressure behind this whole thing, I honestly never really expected to play or at the very least place well in this tournament. If we played, blaze and I would have scouted while clockwork and ash would have played soldier. By no means a fair representation of our team and hardly warranting the disappointment and outrage I've been receiving. Then on top of this, last night it became clear that half the team would be tied up with either work or family obligations to tend to, and that this tournament was not going to get in the way of that. I think that's a pretty fair reason to drop out. It would have been pointless to play with 3+ ringers and 150+ ping. The tweet I made was meant to be tongue in cheek, referencing some of the roster issues that have plagued our team this season and turned into a bit of a running joke for me. Trust me, it's more frustrating for me than it is for you, but this time the reasons were pretty legitimate. I'd wager that if there were a NA TF2 tournament held for which the EU teams had little chance to win that they would probably not prioritize it either especially if they were forced to sacrifice work or time with loved ones for it.
Despite all this, I do appreciate the demonstration of faith put forth by ZOWIE and SweetStakes.TF for sponsoring this tournament, and that our forfeiting was by no means a conscious decision to disrespect them or the rest of the community. I caught part of the stream and there were some great matches so props to the teams that made it and pushed through their own roster issues to fight for that sleek ZOWIE gear and that generous SweetStakes.TF prize pool. It's always been my goal that my team could compete in every single tournament out there, but in the end thats just not realistic. We hope to have the opportunity to participate in future events supported by these outside organiziations because they truly do wonders for legitimizing this game we are so passionate about, and we do love putting on a show for the community and our fans. Of course this event has no bearing on our participation or preparations for i55 which we will not be taking lightly.
Ultimately it was my fault for not being more on top of this. I am the team leader so it's my responsibility to know if my team is playing or not. It's as simple as that. I treated this tournament kind of like I do my Highlander teams, where I just show up and hope everything is in place only to be surprised when we don't have our players. I won't be making that mistake again and I am sorry for all the headache that's been caused over this. I think that the proposed lines of communication tagg brought up would be a great step forward for us to coordinate things and avoid situations like this in the future.
