I see really top scouts have insane movement and I'm wondering what the tricks to unpredictability and good movement are. How should I practice movement? Finally, I here that some scouts have trick jumps and things that help, what are those?
It's finally here.. scout tips thread of this month.
mash space bar and wasd and swing your mouse around like youre having a seizure and you'll be invite in no time
I think from what I have seen is that they strafe with every jump...also don't forget to abuse your hitboxes/character model by spamming crouch while in the air with each jump.

I heard thats been fixed. Can anyone confirm?

Is this technique banned in ESEA? Like how tauntsliding is?

they only reduced the number of times you can spam crouch...think they limited to 2 for scout? don't quote me on that, could be 1.
It works for every class...but scouts who abuse it, gahhhh. Makes them hard to hit.

definitely not

Don't try to be unpredictable, look at whats coming your way and react accordingly. Don't only try to make people miss, you have to actually DODGE shit.
MGE to practice dodging and i'd suggest getting good at surfing/jumping to learn good character control

honestly if you can hit all your shots for max dmg, you can just spam jump and do pretty well. my movement isn't on the level as other scouts in invite but when it comes to 1v1's, for me, it is almost 100% prediction and making sure you don't give them the chance to shoot more than a few shots. basically, I pick a direction(for every shot) and hope it was the correct choice and try to kill them as fast as possible. the more experience you have the more likely you are to pick the correct direction
and at longer ranges it isn't too hard to dodge by reaction... tho i still find myself eating long range pills/rockets
scout vs scout is a complete mystery to me

most starting scouts aim almost entirely with their movement and as a result are easy to meatshot and easy to dodge against. it's ok to strafe aim sometimes but it shouldn't be a crutch in your game. overcoming this crutch is a simple way to have better scout v scout movement immediately

Any particular practice techniques to force yourself out of aiming with strafing?
I feel like I do it whether I want to or not.

get 120hz monitor so you can still see where you're going while strafing wildly

play on DM with +attack in console, try to keep your crosshair on enemy at all times

It is a mix of everything said here, in other words..

I think DM is the easiest way, just be conscious of what you are doing. if you've been strafe aiming almost exclusively it will feel really awkward for instance when you are strafing left and trying to swing your mouse right as you are going around a solly or whatever. Just give it a good 10-15 hours of DM and it will feel natural and it will free up your movement and allow you to be more creative with your dodging

I want to know how Scouts get that weird "launched by explosion" animation. Is it caused by double jumps with a crouchjump script? I find it unusually difficult to predict. Hard to explain, but it looks like this: http://youtu.be/T8gxLtvWJtY?t=1m44s

Ah, alright. I've seen people do it without the script because they're really quick about mashing +duck. Or so they say. Thanks.

i know it seems obvious, but next time you play, try to dodge bullets/damage, and see which keys you press to do this.
against soldiers time their rockets and always chose the unpredictable way. also keep some distance (ofc this depends on the situation, if he has no rockets or you have low hp i dont see why not rush him)
i stop in the mid of my second jumps a lot and it usually works (pretty useful against demos)
against scouts i just spam all the keys, if i dont and i start focusing on my movement i tend to miss more
jump spam will work if your dm is fine and you play against bad ppl but wont help you if you want to play at a higher level

pretty common knowledge but if you're unaware of it it may help.

I tried it a few times...doesn't do shit in my experience, besides messing up all my movement keys when I go into spectator/STV

Against scouts: stay on the ground spamming wasd. If you stand still for a millisecond it can throw someone off. Try to move around a bit and not just dance around in the same 5 foot area because you're just going in and out of their crosshair.
Soldiers: Soldier vs scout is more about positioning than movement. Try and put yourself on higher ground so that he either has to rocket jump at you (ez meatshots) or switch to his shotgun. Keep in mind that the high ground. If he is within one shot of dying then you should just try and stay in the air as long as possible because that sorta forces him to wait for you to land.
If the soldier you're fighting switches to his shotty then stay on the ground. One littlemeta_mindgame[/i] you can try is just jumping once because soldiers will often wait for you to jump twice.
