Hey gamers.
We're finalizing our event schedule for this year and I'm hoping to get some feedback from the community on a few things. Most of the event schedule will look very similar to previous events, but there will be some new ones sprinkled in as well, including some CS:GO stuff. We're also going to have a complete 36 hour schedule this year, so you'll have to plan your sleep around your favorite events or schedule some naps :P
What we need help with is generating ideas for donation incentives/bid wars for some additional/optional content. AGDQ was one inspiration for this event and they have had massive success using donation incentives and bid wars for certain events. If anyone is unfamiliar with the process basically people would donate towards a "bonus" speedrun in addition to their normal event schedule. I believe during the most recent SGDQ every single one of the donation incentives were met. I think it's a great way to drive donations aside from just raffle entries and also adds another level of viewer involvement.
We are looking at implementing something similar into Tip of the Hats. During our first events we thought it would be too complicated and probably unnecessary. We're now setup using a donation tracker identical to AGDQ, programmed by the same person, smk. I think if we have the capability it'd be a shame to let it go to waste because I think it adds a really cool element to the event.
What we need now are proposals for incentives that can work with our TF2 events. This is basically a brainstorming session so I'll look at all the ideas. Incentives that can be tacked on to our existing content are needed most, but we might end up having 2 or 3 hours filled with content determined by donations.
As I said before, our existing content is the stuff you're all familiar with. I will list all of our confirmed events:
6v6 and Highlander NA vs EU
1v1 MGE
Ultiduo
BBall
Surf
Jump
Uncrating
Dota Fortress
Several Pub events(lots of flexibility here)
A new addition this year since we have time to work it in during our overnight section will be 1 map of MvM.
Also, with our onsite production we could use some more ideas that will work nicely on camera involving players/hosts/staff.
Again no idea is a bad idea, but examples are we would have a donation incentive to turn one of our pub sessions into: Saxton Hale, RTD, Randomizer, Prophunt, dodgeball, or PASStime(thoughts on PASStime in general?).
Another example is 2v2 MGE since we currently are not planning on including it our set schedule, but it would work well as a Donation incentive I think.
Anyways thanks in advance for any ideas regarding donation/bid war incentives. I'm also open to feedback regarding events to include/cut.

Pro's vs non-pros like last year iirc? I think it was 6 pros vs 9 none. You could donate to be in the non-pro team? Or donate to pick whos on the pro team?

Invite pugs was always one of my favorite events to watch. Top players, relaxed atmosphere, little to nothing on the line. I would donate to see that happen.

Any particular league ruleset that matches will be following? If I know which one I can put together a Passtime config for you.

Since Pass Time came out maybe you could set up a 6v6 pug with donators, Invite players, etc
I enjoy playing Pass Time and I'm sure it could be really interesting to watch without 3 engies per team

Donation incentives: hosts take shirts off
6v6 - Donators pick where teams are seeded for the tournament, donators can choose a last push that has to be used during the course of a game (double spy cap, heavy + pyro gully last, sack 5 and medic backcaps etc.) donations over x($200?) amount can make 1 player killbind, donators can buy in for a BO5, donators can pick the final map pool.
Highlander NA vs EU - Donations over x($200?) amount can make 1 player killbind, donators can buy in for a BO5, donators can pick the final map pool.
1v1 MGE - 7 invited players with 1 spot available for highest donator participation, Double elim perk, losers bracket being played with DH/gunboats perk, donation bidding war for final maps + NA or EU server location
Ultiduo - 7 invited teams with 1 spot available for highest donator participation, Double elim perk, losers bracket being played with DH/gunboats perk, donation bidding war for final maps + NA or EU server location

Some event specific ideas:
NA v EU show match: Bid war to decide server location (which side has a ping advantage)
Depends on your format, if you are just playing one map it would be less viable (but still possible, would have to start the bid war before hand). Anyway, ping is always an issue for these, and typically they are played over three maps alternating between and EU or an NA server. If you are using the same format (and have access to both an EU and an NA server) then creating bid wars to choose which server is used (make it into an NA v EU for the viewers as well). Could do this for all maps, or just for the decider.
Jump/Surf: Bonus runs, record attempts, etc...
Would have to leave these up to the players taking part, they would need to be comfortable with the potential bonus runs. But bid wars to determine from a list of options, for this extra content. Or, make it a series of goals. Each subsequent goal unlocks an additional bonus run.
1v1 MGE: Select location, either for all matches, or for brackets/individual matches
Depends a bit on the format you are planning on using, and depending on classes being played the options would have to be selected carefully. Alternatively, could allow viewers to vote for classes/weapons to be used, but that has the potential to get clowny (which might not be a bad thing)
Pubs are fairly straightforward. Selecting modes, maps, custom content, can also allow players to bid for early access prior to events that will appear on stream. Or, if you have several pub servers live you could allow viewers to vote for which server appears on stream for a set period of time
Uncrating, maybe selecting the series that is uncrated. If you are doing all at once this probably doesn't work. But if you aren't uncrating everything it is viable, or if you are uncrating at various times it can also work.
Ultiduo/BBall: First thought was map, but there isn't a huge difference between maps for either mode. Might be interesting to vote on teams comprised of the various 'stream personalities' present to be played after the main event. Sort of a more clowny show match involving the various twitch and youtube personalities that are present for the event.

How about a "Valves Game" with invite players. No class limits, no weapon bans. Get 12 high level players and let them come up with whatever they want. Precursor to Match-making.

I support Valve's Game incentive, even if it we end up watching as quick-fix medics follow baby face scouts into the heat of beggar's bazookas and wrangled mini-sentries healed by rescue ranger shots. 5 medics 1 heavy? 3 heavy-medic combos? 6 engineers short circuiting and healing a sentry on granary last? Pure poetry, provided the invite players allow themselves to play-through-the-pain and not disconnect halfway through a match.
Another good donation incentive should be what tf2mod/game mode is played during a scheduled pub hour maybe?
Also a donation war for the top 6 donated player suggestions to form a team and face an invite team pugscrim style.
I might think of some good ones another time. I doubt surfing/jumping blindfolded would be a valid suggestion. Maybe Jump Beef blindfolded??
