Anyone else playing the pre-alpha? You can get it at http://www.unrealtournament.com/blog/
Comp ladders should be added pretty soon(ish).

Had a lot of fun with some teammates in the pre-alpha last night. Never played an UT until this and it's a lot of fun :)
Playing right now on a server called knucklesdoesntsuck that kairu is hosting if you want to play :)

Sorry for the late bump, but here's a new video about UT

UT has always been terrible compared to quake, I hope they re-think the movement to be a lil less clunky :(

UT has always been on par with Quake in terms of quality, but Quake had a bigger competitive scene at a higher level. I would argue that UT's quality is likely better due to the diversity and depth the series has offered. Quake does do well with a "less is more" approach, but still, both games are great in their own ways.
UT's movement has always been mostly the same with dodging, except that UT 2003/2004 had dodge-jumping. It may not be as interesting as Quake's, but you can't say it's objectively bad because it doesn't have strafe jumping.

Anyone else pub a whole lot yet? I've been playing CTF pubs and it's kinda miserable even when I'm winning, but I'm still willing to stick with it. I gotta rant autismically about Facing Worlds aka the 2fort of UT for a bit so bear with me here. FW isn't as awful not-fun AIDS as TF2 2fort circa 2010 despite them having almost the same inherent design but someone clearly fucked up when making the new FW. I even reinstalled 2k4 to make sure I wasn't hallucinating that 2k4's FW wasn't like this one.
I get that people will always be drawn to the sniper rifle weapon but when UT4's FW has the old at-spawn sniper rifle spawn and on top of that now has this kind of sightline to the other side of FW's low ground spawn as well as both of the sniper perches. 2k4's FW at least has the slopes cover up low ground spawn until you get to the very peak. It was also a helluva lot easier to fight for the Keg of Health on 2k4's FW since there was more room to brawl without 100% being afraid of falling off unless your team completely controls the hill.
Also how do I abuse the shit out of walljumping? I basically have no idea how it works outside of that super quick "movement tutorial" level where I pressed spacebar into a wall and somehow made it across to the next area.

I think they just included it because it's an iconic map rather than because it's good.

Run at a wall against someone with a rocket launcher
They shoot at the wall for splash
Walljump
literally free damage

Installed this the other day and played a few games... It's fun, but overall I'm not really that impressed. I just miss UT2k4 :(
